Fenix 5x - erratic battery level

Hi

Yesterday I was cycling with fenix 5x. Outside was very cold, -5°C. When I went from home battery level was 21%. I have battery consumption on avrage 4.5% - 6% per hour. During activity I got message that battery level was very low (only 5%). When I finished my ride and save activity battery level was 16%.

Garmin please make a little investigation.
  • Perfectly normal. You battery gets worse in the cold and gets better when it warms up again. Before going out in that temperature it is recommended to charge to 100% to lessen the effect of the drop
  • I know that in that temperatures consumption of battery rises. That is normal an not a problem. But is not normal that between the ride I got pop-up message of very low battery (only 5% remanig) and when you came home you still have 16%

    Battery consumption does not increase in cold, but battery capacity tends to decrease temporarily until warmed up again. Alas, the watch thinks it has less power in its battery than in actually has.
  • I had a similar issue some days ago. Went out with about %16 battery and rode about 2 - 3 KM in 10 - 15 minutes. That made it to %5. Then I hit resume later option. About an hour or two it beeped saying battery is %5. Then I went out and started to ride back and it was %4. It couldn't finish my ride with that level, just recorded about a KM. Weather was about -5 Celsius degrees but my arm should be hotter.

    I see big fluctuations in Fenix 5X battery levels. I think batteries inside it, is not so high quality and F5X power draw overloads the battery too much. Or voltage estimator algorithm of charge pump is not so well suited for the job and estimates things strangely.
  • I went out yesterday to get food supplies as I'm snowed in, watch was 58% battery when leaving,
    an hour and a half later it was down to 31%.
    Temp was -5C.
    Also noticed battery giving a few more percent after the activity,as OP said, as others mentioned maybe because its under more load (GPS) and cold? the battery estimator seems to work better in non GPS mode?

    Comparison:::::::

    Also took my phone at 38%
    after a mile took it out to take a picture, and soon after, the phone turned itself off with 0% battery left!
