1 week in - beta tester question

Hi, I'm one week in with the Fenix 5X and am curious how I go about getting access to and installing the beta OSes for the watch. I see there is an issue with the 8.0 firmware not counting steps after bike rides without a reboot. Given I'm riding my bike daily I'd rather not have to reboot (since I'd inevitably forget).
  • When there's a public beta, there's a sticky post in this forum with a link. Any one that wants to can download it. 8.00 just came out, so it may be a bit before there is one.

The betas are not for APAC devices but as you have 8.00, you have a "rest of the world" device.

With the numbers, if the last digit is a 0, it's production. Non zero, it's a beta.

There's still a sticky for the 7.93 beta, for example.
  • Thanks! I saw in another post that the Garmin team is expecting to release a beta this week with a fix for the floor counting issue. Not sure how often they push production releases out but this seems like a problem with pretty basic functionality so perhaps something might come sooner versus later.

I have an APAC version and I am on 8.00:

    <Model><PartNumber>006-B2604-00</PartNumber><SoftwareVersion>800</SoftwareVersion>

  • That's actually a ROW device. APAC is part number 006-B2798-00.

You don't need to be in the open betas. In fact, you'll get some working features to stop working as soon as you apply official patches. :-)
Whether you apply or not to the program, you're still testing unfinished or untested software and, by the way, in case your watch has a hardware failure, Garmin may even tell you that you "forcibly installed" beta software and only replace it out of... courtesy.

Welcome in, man, you'll have lots of fun with us trust me! :-)
