crazy notifications when roaming

I'm currently abroad and my Fenix 5 is vibrating every few minutes showing me a notification that roaming is off.
Apart from roaming being on, this notification is driving me crazy.
It wasn't like this before. Maybe I have changed some settings, but I don't find anything to turn this off (rather than to disable notifications completely of course).

Any clue how I could turn this off?

Thxx,

see if there is a setting on your phone for notifications when roaming, and try turning that off.
  • unfortunately there's no such setting (Galaxy S7 on Nougat). I know the menu pretty well and I've had another look, so I'm very sure I haven't missed anything.

    I have the same problem.
I travel abroad a lot and this issue started a couple of weeks ago after a recent Garmin app update. It was always OK before that so is clearly something they updated in the App. I've tried everything I can think of on the Watch, on the Garmin App and on the phone, but nothing stops it.
Even when smart notifications are completely turned off I still get the roaming notification coming through to my watch.
I spoke to Garmin tech support but they just said they hadn't heard of this issue and couldn't help me, and that they would 'record' the issue, whatever that means.
So for now I have to live with it, but it has essentially made my watch unusable when I'm roaming, which is 2 or 3 days every week.....
I'm hoping that it gets solved very soon though....

  • If they are coming through even when Smart Notifications are Off, then it is a system notification rather than an app notification. I haven't encountered it myself, but you may want to try Settings> System> Phone> Alerts

I agree that it's a system notification rather than an app notification, but the Android roaming notification cannot be turned off on the phone unless the phone is rooted, which mine isn't, which leaves me needing to fins a solution wither with the phone or the app.
The menu string you show doesn't exist in my watch (Forerunner 735XT) or the app, or the phone, so I'm not sure where you refer to? Please advise....
  • I think that just stops your watch complaining if it drops the phone connection, and it should be Settings>Phone>Alerts on a fenix 5. No idea about a 735 I'm afraid.
  • mcalista must be referring to iOS. I'm on Android.
burtonwisher, how did you contact Garmin? I'd like to do the same thing, else they'll never find out that they've screwed up their software.

The only thing that helped for me was disabling notification on the watch itself. Nothing I did on the phone did help.
I tried to disable all smart-notifications in Connect without success. Meanwhile I 'm back home, have re-enabled notifications and it doesn't work. Guess that's a different problem. With Garmin Software you're really getting used to stuff simply not working :-(

Speedreach, I called the Garmin UK tech support team on 0808 238 0000. Decent bloke but I was frustrated that they wouldn't officially record the issue

I have the same issue and it is getting very annoying.

    My device is Forerunner 735XT

    Annoying Message:

You are roaming. roaming disable tap here to enable

I had contacted garmin support and after a long while they told me than they could not help.

    Their final answer was:

I'm really sorry this is happening but as our devices do not use data, this is a notification that is being initiated by your phones network. We are unable to assist in preventing this from occurring.

I would advise contacting your service provider/handset supplier to see if they can prevent this notification being generated.

    Kind regards,

    Brad

Anybody had found a solution for this?
