Stairs counter not working since firmware upgraded to 8.0

Hi

I am a recent user of a Fenix 5X. I got it 6 weeks ago, and since then I've got 1 map upgrade and 3 firmware upgrades 7.40?, 7.60 a 8.00. Since this last upgrade it doesn't detect the stairs/floors climbed.

It's a bit like issue in Daily Stair Count Problem in v8.0 When Using Elevators but I don't get corrected taking the lift...

Any advice?

Best regards

Honestly, did it ever work well? I’ve had mine roughly 8 weeks and on a GOOD day it’s only about 50% accurate. I considerate it a random data generator I wear on my wrist.
  • For some of guys it's working and for some other guys, does not work at all.For me i saw after upgrading to 8.00 it count to much stairs.Without climbing any stairs, the watch show me 2 floor climbed. And this without any change of altitude. Also the watch count floors counting when i have take the elevator. So yeah, it's a random thing because the watch it's not doing everytime like this.I have times when i am really climbing stairs and after climbing 10 floors the watch barely show me 2 floors. So the counting stairs it's not an app that you can rely on.Thank you GARMIN!
  • It was obvious in the beta that floors wasnt working on a lot of people's watches yet they still released it. What I dont understand in the least is how software for the Fenix watches can have such a different effect on everyones watch which should be the same. I run stock watch faces and nothing 3rd party installed yet why such a difference and software bugs for the same exact watch!

  • Hi everyone,

We are aware of an issue where the Floors Climbed feature is deactivated during the following activity types. For floors climbed to resume counting, the watch will need a reboot after recording one of these activities. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we should have a beta update available this week that will resolve this issue. (This list may include activities that are not preinstalled on the Fenix 5 series.)

    SWIMMING
    ROWING
    MULTISPORT
    PADDLING

Counting too much stairs happen to me as well. One think i noticed is altitude value raised in the same place from a day before. Altitude calibration was set on previous day and it changed from 12m to 24m with no reason. I told that as it can be the reason of too much stairs counting. Altitude reference value seems to be raising every day even kepping the same position and GPS auto calibration is deactivated.
I bet too much money to buy this watch in believe it's the best but ........Real behaviour does not match its expectations.

  • Exact same thing my watch does. With altimeter and counting stairs. And i have gps auto calibration deactivated and same position but the altimeter value raising.

By rebooting, does that just mean power on and off?

ps it is refreshing to see responsiveness from a software quality team here. This is in stark contrast to the lack of communication over in the very big thread of frustration over in the index scale forum. If you see those guys at the water cooler, maybe you could encourage them to follow your great example.

The first time I restarted after it quit working it started working again for 2 days, but not accurately. Now it stopped and does not work even after restart. Thanks for keeping us updated.
