Screen went bad, happened to anyone Else?

Short and Sweet:

Today I ran, and then did some strength training. Both worked flawlessly as always with my Fenix 5. Then today after lunch in noticed that the screen was no longer responding. After a hard reset, the screen just displayed these lines. The watch still vibrates and beeps as if the screen was fine, and does reset (without any garmin logo on boot up) but the screen just stays the way it looks in the photo below. Anyone else get this problem? I didn't bang or drop the watch today, just normal use. Garmin was fantastic on the phone and only took about 5 minutes to get a new unit out to me. Hopefully I could still get runs turned on and by guessing where the activity is!

Swap it out ... my Fenix 5 replacement suffers from altimeter issues - static discharge seems to cause it. Also saw my screen corrupt when removing my jacket. It straightened out (the screen) when the watchface updated (Garmin built in one). Bet there are some watches with defective ESD protection.

I have had TWO Fenix 5 watches fail this exact same way now. I believe static electricity is killing my screens.

Now my THIRD Fenix 5 has altimeter/barometer/temperature big problemes.

So soon I will be on my FOURTH Fenix 5.

This happened to me today. Did yours resolve after a few minutes? What was the end result?

Hi. I wore my watch for a run in the rain on Sunday. Within 36 hrs the screen had developed a white circular shape at around the 5 o’clock point. Since then the screen has been faint when notifications come through. I see other people have had similar issues.

The watch was bought in the states in March-18.

will garmin support with a repair or replace?

my guess is that they'll replace it with a refurbished unit due to it being out of it's 1 year warranty.

The screen on my fenix 5 went blank just last week. I highly suspect it's because of static for my case. Cold and very dry here and I was wearing synthetic clothing at the time which only made the static electricity even worse.

I sent mine in and will be getting a refurbished unit at a cost just under that of a forerunner 45. I debated getting a newer garmin but it seems all the models have their issues.

I’ve just experienced the same problem with my Fenix 5s, I’ve had the watch 2 years as a running aid, out of the blue no bangs whacks or drops I got the circle of death. What was the cost of repair? Any recalls from Garmin?

Exact same problem with mine. Wore it fro a swim and noticed the next day the same white spot at the side. Clearly a manufacturing problem here. Less than a year old and Garmin are only offering me 30% off purchase of a new device as stopped manufacturing the 5s. Warranty says repair or full refund of purchase price which is what I have now requested. Screen is unreadable now in sport options and white halo around face all the time in watch screen.
