I came from various manufacturers watches. Went to garmin 3 sapphire then to chronos ss, and now on 5x. On the first two I was able to view the screens just fine on rainy days. The f5X I cant. The upgrades that were made are not visible in fact the screen appears to be a down grade. All my devices have had sapphire glass so this is not the issue. Needless to say I'm very disappointed and after all of the function issues and now after upgrading I can't view the screen without using back light. Tried to upload photos but even the forum is very dated .... I emailed garmin including pics and have yet to get a responre . Its not like your buying cheap. These watches are expensive in fact some of the most expensive you can buy. The chronos was the closest thing to a good tracker / smart watch but well over half the apps designed for it on the market won't load on it. There is a thread dated over a year and going with these issues and Garmin has yet to fix the issue.
I don't know if it's a hardware issue, or if eyes are simply...different. Mine are surely pretty f'ed up due to a genetic disease. However, I find the F5X screen rather readable if there is a little light available. Otherwise I just give it a quick press on the light/power button. In normal use, like during exercise it's no problem. Nor is it during hikes. But, I do stuff like this in the daytime. Not in sewer tunnels. In fact., compared to the "other" kind of smartwatch screens, the "not always on"-variety, I find the technology Garmin use hugely practical. However, It's not perfect, and I realize you might have a particular issue with your unit or other preferences, so don't get me wrong.
Am I the only one to smell a rat with all those newbies complaining lately ? Is this some kind of marketing war against Garmin? If I have been reading that forum before to buy my 5X... I would have wait for the new Casio !!
Always someone who has to start calling out names because someone has an issue with something they think is the greatest thing since bread and butter. Although I'm a fan i don't hold myself in the fan boy club for obvious reasons. Still can't post pics but you can see them on the fenix 5x group on Facebook. My response from garmin was that they could definitely see where there was a difference in the screen and were sorry that it is now causing issue. Went on to say they understood my frustration but the engineers assured them it was designed this way for better outdoor viewing vs the older models. Looks like I'll be keeping the chronos for everyday use and the 5x for working out and sunny only days where I'l be outside.
