I have a fenix 5x HR and the altimeter / stairs counter / thermometer / barometer /… have not been functioning for over a month now – not functioning at all. Quite frankly, the watch is useless to me. The Belgian Support Centre is even more useless by telling me ‘ALL Fenix 5x HR are dealing with the same issue’ and that I ‘have to wait for a software update’. Apparently, I am not entitled to a refund even though all main functions of the € 750 device are not functioning 2 months after purpose. I AM DESPERATE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!! Is anyone having the same problems?!
  • Seems to me that if all those functions are not working then you would return it to the place of purchase for a refund/exchange.

You could also try older firmware versions perhaps the last firmware update didn't install correctly and you need to re-install.

I'm a real dummy at that kind of stuff. How do I install older firmware versions?
  • Is there any "Fenix 5x HR" ever produced ...? It's written three times in this thread.
Am I the only one to smell trolling ?
  • What is specifically wrong with the:
    Altimeter/floors count/barometer/thermometer.

I don't understand why you were not able to send your watch to Garmin for repair or replacement, considering nothing works as you say.
Or take it back to where you bought it, if its only two months old?
Also it seems a strange reply from Garmin?
I suppose you tried a master reset already.

  • I have not seen an issue where all the functions are broken. Maybe with the altitude or HR sensor. Its not a common problem that has been report - from what I see in the forum.

That said, if you do have a total dud Garmin are pretty good at replacing - at least here in the US. Not sure what the Belgian support center are saying.

I would try a reset to see if it brings it back to life. Perhaps something in memory is hanging everything - mine sometimes comes off charge with a 'process' running that just runs down the battery and a quick restart fixes it.
  • Barometer and thermometer are probably on the same sensor and used to calculate and track elevation changes. Thus, if its barometer is broken it doesn't display correct barometer data, altimeter data and temperature. As it can't track the elevation correctly, it can't track the stairs...

My device is a fenix 5x hr (sapphire edition with heart rate monitor). All of these functions are frozen. The stairs remain at 0, the temperature at 303°F, the altimeter at 5 and the barometer at 8383 …??????? This has been the case for over a month now. The service centre says I have to wait for a software update (indefinite timing) and that ALL these devices have the same problem, which clearly isn’t the case. I will definitely send the link to this forum to the support centre so they can see for themselves that I know they’re just fobbing me off! So please keep reacting to this post!! Thank you!
  • In case its software related, maybe try a master reset, then load the beta 5x software 7.93
so you'll have new sensor hub files in case your's are corrupted?
As you said, the problems your experiencing obviously dosen't effect all 5x units,my sensors are operational for instance.
I would also phone them up again.(different person sometimes equals different solution.)
  • There is no Fenix 5X HR model on the market. There is a Fenix 3HR. I own a Fenix 5X but I know there's no 5X HR model anywhere.

Yeah you're right; it's a fenix 5x. Issue remains though. Still no luck on getting the problem fixed or getting a decent response from Garmin's Belgian support centre ...
    But I keep trying.
    Thanks for your support guys.
