Connect IQ data tracked but not shown on Garmin Connect

Hi all,

Having a somewhat weird issue. I was playing around with the Garmin Running Power data fields and also with another data field (Peter's (Race) Pacer) which both should add data to the FIT file and also view it on the activity on Garmin Connect. However, any additional graph about IQ data (e.g. running power or ahead time (Peter's Pacer)) is not shown for my activities. I know it should work as it's working fine on my running peers devices (also a fenix 5 and another guy with a fenix 5x). So I am missing both the additional IQ related graph and the nice icon of the additional data field used - right side at the Garmin connect activity page, just below the icon of the watch itself, above the equipment (shoes) icon.

What I've tried so far:
* Checked the settings to track the additional data multiple times, both via iOS app and Garmin Express
* Removed all IQ data fields and install Peter's Pacer only via Garmin Express (and again checked settings, changed some settings which were properly reflected on the watch - so sync is working)
* The FIT files themselves are larger in size when comparing with older activities (before I installed the data field)
* Looking into the fit files with notepad I at least saw the term "Ahead time" which let's me think that there's proper data in there
* Turned the watch off and on
* Exported my FIT files and asked a friend (with working field and displayed data) to import on his profile - IQ data was not shown
* Imported my friend's FIT file including the same ahead time data from Peter's pacer - worked well on my profile (--> So I am getting to the conclusion that there's a wrong setting somewhere on my watch instead of a broken Garmin Connect profile)
* Re-installed 7.60 (simply used the OS backup file from latest beta)

I am running out of ideas to be honest. I haven't reset the device to factory settings as I'm feared of loosing all the stats and calculations (lactate, VO2max, HR zones, ...). So if there was anything else I could try, e.g. change a (hidden) setting or at least a hint on how to backup and recover the caluclated stats & data would be very helpful.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
Bert

(I was running the 6.83 beta some time before 7.0 was released - this might have been the difference to my mates devices)

  • It could also be a server side issue; for some reason the server is not displaying valid data. Do your runs show elevation correction on or off? If it's on, it might not be recognising your watch model properly and this might be another side effect of that. If this is the case, master resetting the watch wont work. If you could share a public link to one of these races, i could take a look at the file and see if the data look valid.
  • Hi mcbadger,
Thank you for having a look at it. I sent you a link and a fit file via PM.

    Cheers,
    Bert
  • Hi Bert,

Had a good look at your file. There are valid ConnectIQ fields throughout for power and time ahead (some of the power values are zero because the watch wasn't picking up the running dynamics for the first couple of minutes, but after that it's fine). I've even been able to see graphs of them in Sporttracks PC version.
You also mentioned seeing elevation corrections on. So, diagnosis, you have the problem described inthis thread and you might be able to get it fixed quickly by emailing the beta team, but they say they have a fix coming through which will sort it for everyone. I don't know if it will make Connect IQ data show up in workouts from before the fix is put in place.

    Resetting your watch won't help.
  • Thank you mcbadger! The hint to the other thread is really helpful - seems I am having one of those devices (I also see this weird issue with the FW version being displayed wrongly). Will have a closer look at the other thread and follow up there.

    Cheers,
    Bert
