[fw 7.60] Network Error. Try Again Later

since the update to 7.60 I cannot anymore sync via wifi
my home router/access-point configuration hasn't changed
I can search for a wifi network and properly config it from the Fenix itself and it seems to work(=connect), but when I try to sync I get the "Network Error. Try Again Later." message.
Of course I tryed to:
_restart the router (because of dhcp issues reported from other users)
_reboot the fenix
_delete and reconfigure the network both from the Fenix and from Garmin Express

nothing helped

note: My Fenix 5x worked with my home network since I bought it on september with no issue at all. I haven't changed my router/access-point config since 12 months, my latest network devices firmware update was just after the "spectre bug" had come clear)

[PARTIAL WORKAROUND] I restored the device to factory defaults, reconfigured (garmin account, wifi settings) then I was able to sync, but JUST ONCE, now I'm back to the "Network Error. Try Again Later." error message

[what I'm going to try next] My guess is: there is something up in the cloud backup of the configuration, so even if I restore to factory my Fenix, it gests this corrupted config file back a the 1st sync
So I will try to delete the device from my account before I restore it to factory defaults

I have the same on my fenix 3. When I sync via wifi it just says "network error, try again later" I tried deleting the watch from garmin connect and then return to defaults but it did not work. I even tried wiping the watch and adding it to my wife's garmin account. The router is on channels 1-11 2.4 ghz, WPA2 and show SSID. I even got a new fenix 3 but that was just the same. Can anyone please help?
  • I have the same problem, I have done some tests and I have reached a conclusion.

Devices used: Microsoft Lumia 950XL, HP PC with Windows 10 Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro and an Android Nokia 5 Smatphone borrowed.

The procedure for the tests has always been the same:
    - Remove Fenix 5X from the device.
    - Remove Fenix 5X from Garmin Express.
    - Reconnect to Garmin Express and before connecting to any device: WIFI works perfectly.
    - When linked to the device by bluetooth, only works with Android Nokia 5.

The problem is with the UWP Windows 10, it has not been updated since October of last year and Garmin has changed something on servers.
    Now we have a problem:
Fuchsia OS will soon replace Android, as always NO current smartphone will update.
I do not want to spend more than 1000 € on IPhone X to have the same technology that I already have with my 3 years old 950XL, but Garmin seems to have abandoned the UWP Windows 10, despite the fact that every day there are more Surface devices style, or the works of Windows 10 on ARM.

Do we have to spend extra money on a transition device, or would Garmin update the WMP for Windows 10? I think the answer is on the official specifications of Fenix 5X: "Smartphone compatibility: iPhone®, Android Tm, Windows®". Today the specifications not been changed, but gradually my Fenix 5X is losing functions, such as disconnections, calendar, weather forecast, notifications...

    Question:
All the users with problems, are you using Windows 10 devices?

I was sometimes syncing via the UWP app for W10 notebook
Actually I'm just syncicng either via Wifi with the website (consulting activities via browser)
or syncing via USB with Gamin Express
    .
I'm not using mobile notification, I think their're just a battery waste

    Try this:

Remove Fenix 5X from your notebook, remove from Garmin Express, reconnect to Garmin Express and before connecting to any device, try to syncing WIFI.

    Tell us if it worked.
  • Contacted support to troubleshoot this error, which occurred starting with the 7.60 release. Prior to 7.60, syncing occurred solely through the wi-fi connect option, not through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Support suggested deleting the root 'WIFI' folder on the device (appears empty). This did not fix the issue, however, the update to 8.00 did, after also deleting this folder:

1.) Update device to 8.00 (any method)
2.) Connect device to computer, delete 'WIFI' folder
    3.) Unmount, disconnect
4.) Set 'Settings', 'Phone', 'Status' to off to ensure no connection to Garmin Connect Mobile
5.) Sync device with Hot Controls, will proceed to 'Searching for Wi-Fi Network', then 'Transferring' and the subsequent 'Transfer complete.', as opposed to 'Network Error...'

Have tested half a dozen times, but the issue appears to be fixed for me.

  • @Icebear

I believe you can get the update by syncing via Garmin Connect Mobile via bluetooth if Garmin Express is not recognizing the device when connecting. Please see:

(Netzwerkfehler)
