Can't authenticate maps after 7.6

Awesome. So I woke the other day and my F5X got automatically updated to 7.6. Maps are gone. Upon boot it says Cannot authenticate maps, contact map vendor for help. Good. Only the basemap is visible.

So I tried the following:

1) Soft reset
2) Reinstall FW
3) Reinstall maps via Express.
4) Delete maps from watch and reinstall them from scratch.

Today I took the plunge and did the hard reset. And guess what. even THAT did not help.

Of course I tried the suggested and contacted G support. It is, indeed, a fortress of ignorance and was of zero help whatsoever.
I do not have any weird maps on the device, just the factory set.

Ideas?
  • Hi,
What advice did Garmin give you?
Did you contact them by phone,
I always get better results contacting by phone.

They recommended doing what I said I had done already. They were not able to recommend deleting the maps and reinstalling them because they had no idea which file on the watch is which map. Their last recommendation was a factory reset which I did to no avail. Getting usable help from the G support line happened to me exactly zero times in my life. I could as well just talk to my neigbour's fat lab. The dog is at least nice and does not pretend I am an idiot.

I have no useful input for you. Sorry. But, doing a factory reset will not delete map files. At least not custom maps you might have copied to your device. So, if there's anything wrong with the files themselves that is causing this, it might not do anything at all. However, as you have reinstalled the maps it shouldn't be about the files, the issue lie elsewhere.
  • Was there ever a solution for this on the F5X ? I've had it for a couple of software releases. I don't use the maps so don't much care but the message occurring every time i reboot the watch is a little bit annoying.
We just got 9.3 in Asia so saw it again today.
