Distance off on my tracking in group rides.

Just got back from weekend of riding. Noticed on a couple of the group rides my miles were off by quite a bit. On the last ride I reported 11.5, the average for others (Same route) was 14.5. Studied the routes and they look pretty identical, i don't seem any real straight joins to suggest gps lost tracking. Very strange. Only thing I can think is the auto-pause was getting 'stuck' on. Not had that occur before (on 7.60). Only thing I can attribute it to is with had quite a few stops when deciding which path to take (mountain bike park ride with lots of trails) and hit several rock technical sections with some slow riding. Never seen this occur before. Rides are all usually with .1 of each other.
  • The release of 7.60 seemed to involve a number of incorrect settings being imported from GC. Specifically you may want to check the wheel diameter settings under the speed sensor. Have you compared the distance on GC to that on Strava (if you have them linked?)

While on a road ride, I find autopause useful, if I am doing steep climbs (especially in a forest), I find it is continually activating even when I am still moving forward.
  • Alas I don't have the speed and cadence sensors on the bike - keep meaning to get one but really want a power $$ meter more!

Strava shows the same distance - looks like I lost 1/10 here and there on segments. The ‘routes’ from all riders looks practically identical - given usual gps oddities.

Don't usually stop on local rides and don't have nearly the amount of slow, technical sections that we encountered. Lot of rocky climbing and descents which was fun! I'm thinking it was just auto-pause getting confused - didn't get that buzz I feel if I stop and start here occasionally. I switched it off for now. Back to reality today so no chance to test it at that park!
I don't usually pay much attention to the miles here - know roughly what each track should be and its usually pretty much on point. I only really noticed it there where such a huge difference. I'm thinking over all rides was probably close to ten lost miles.

I looked at the moving time over elapsed time for the rides - quite a difference in some which is where i think the miles got lost. Going to keep auto-pause off now. Of course, I might just be getting old and slow and my 5x thinks my riding speed is more like a pause. :-)
  • You use the garmin speed and cadence mcalista? I have some Amazon credits and might just order it.
  • Ordered the speed and cadence sensor on Amazon using some credits. If it aint in Strava it never happened so need to fix that. :-)
