Received my f5 sapphire today and coming from the f3 I have to say i am very impressed. Couple off quick questions though;
1 - surely the training calendar is directly accessible on the f5 as on f3? rather than picking what i feel like doing today and hoping it matches what I have planned in the training calendar.. ?
2 - is glonass always on. I couldn't find a setting or confirmation for it.
3 - I have run the f5 ohr against the chest strap and f3 today and will use the chest strap with the new f5. If the ohr is so inaccurate for exercise do you use it for monitoring reading hr etc or is that not recommended? Also, is there any way to switch it off please?
4 - lastly... where is the find my phone app!!!! :rolleyes:

thank you in advance for suggestions and advice!!!:)

    Ah found the glonass in the app setups!
  • 1. You open the activity app first (Run or whatever), then Menu>Training>Training Calendar (this is different to the Fenix 3 for Workouts, Course Navigation and Race Activity too)
    2. You’ve got that.
    3. You can turn OHR off Menu>Settings>Sensors & Accessories>>Wrist Heart Rate>Status>Off. I find WHR OK for steady running, walking and cycling on smooth surfaces, but I always switch to a chest strap for rowing, strength training, circuit training and running intervals. Once a chest strap is paired in an activity, the WHR is turned off (regardless of the setting mentioned earlier - chest strap always has precedence over WHR). I don’t find the WHR uses that much battery out of activity, so unless you have a specific reason to turn it off permanently then might as well leave it on to get the 24 hr HR and stress tracking.
    4. Find my phone is an app. So if you’re missing it from the list of apps on your F5 when you press start, you may need to re-add it using GCM or age.

    that's awesome thanks!!!! not sure what I was doing wrong with the WHR then. I had the f5 on tight up on the left wrist and f3 on right wrist and the f3 paired to chest strap. Even when walking for a couple of kms the f5 was out by 30 bpm compared to chest strap. I also tried it on the underside of the wrist so it would be closer to a pulse and it actually did improve but still 15-20 bpm out from the chest strap.
    I have to return the f3 on Monday so will test when doing weights and HIIT and resting this weekend.
    Also, from a quick search also looks like there's no "find my phone" app any more in the CIQ...

    just one question is there any advantage of the tactical / track me apps over other apps? as far as I could tell its just a standard app setup and non specific data screens?
  • Find My Phone I think is one of the defaults available in the control menu (press and hold the light button), rather than being a CIQ app.
  • Yup, my bad. I was thinking back to my Fenix 3 where the find my phone was an app, but on the Fenix 5 it is indeed in the Controls Menu as mcalista describes. To add things to the Controls Menu, if they are not already there, press Settings>Controls>Add New.

    As far as I can tell, the tactical app is simply set up by default to have the info most likely to be of use to military types; dimmer screen using white on black, location in grid ref and lat/long. Nothing that you couldn’t set up by modifying the Hike app really. That said, using the Tactical app means it does show up as a “Tactical” activity in Garmin Connect. The Track Me is again a simple app for someone who can’t decide what activity they are doing, but just wants the watch to track and record their location.

    all sorted - wouldn't have bothered with the control panel but it's very very useful!
    thank you both for the great advice!
