Fenix 5X 7.60 Lap Swimming still completely inaccurate

Updated to 7.60.
Swam 1000m freestyle but it recorded 1700m.
Have emailed the beta team again.

Pool is 50m with watch set to 50m.

  • Do you have reason to believe it is a firmware issue? Did earlier firmwares detect your turns better?

The watch counts laps by detecting your turns. If your turns are not "detectable enough", you get too few laps.
  • ...or if you do 'strange things' during a length. There are a few lengths that have very short times. Any idea what happened there? The time range of the lengths is also quite large 1:07 to 2:34. I suspect the fault lies more with your swimming than the device.

Looking at activity history the last version it worked well was at firmware v6.00. It seemed perfect then, maybe 1 lap off sometimes.

If it does not detect my turns then, yes it should be less laps recorded, its doing the opposite, its recording nearly double more. So it thinks Im turning when I am not ?

I admit Im not a fast swimmer and Im sure my form is not perfect, in fact Im always thinking throughout my swim at everything to make the stroke smooth and efficient.
But it did work well up to and including v6.00. After that it stopped recording accurately. This is my second F5X, the first did the same.

Ive had previous devices which recorded my swimming well, the Garmin Swim, Fenix 3 and Fenix 3HR.

Sorry, I thought you wrote that you swam 1700 meter, and the watch only thought you swam 1000 meter. Consequently, I did not mention the possibility of false positives in the turn detection.

If your problem is that the watch is detecting turns while you are in the middle of a lap, then it is possible that you are doing something which can be confused with a turn. For example stopping swimming for some seconds or changing your swim style.

I'm having the same problem. It's like on the length out it'll work fine, but on the return length back it'll add an extra length or so. Should I return it for an exchange or wait it out for another patch?

Dont know if this is a hardware issue.
Both the first and now second Fenix 5X I have worked fine up to v6.00.
    After v6.00 the accuracy dropped.

Im awaiting a second reply from Beta team. They said they knew of the issue and would be addressed in the next Beta, I dont know which Beta they mean exactly.
Or whether they were referring to the different issue where it records just 1 extra lap only.

Apparently they have looked into it already as I think this is the second (if not the third) consecutive beta they released mentioning they addressed it with no success.
However, swimming with the watch requires a "technique" that has nothing to do with swimming technique. You need some extra care to make sure you get the right data and, so far, most of the complaints turned out to be either (rare) issues with the accelerometer or with magnetic disturbance (very rare) or lack of "technique" on behalf of the user.

What is a surely known bug is the length counter being ahead of the lap counter (but I think it's a data field problem, not a master FW problem).

I've written down a few tips a long time ago, make sure to try and keep us posted about your results.

  • Beata teams told me that they have understood the interval length data field problem and I think they will resolve it in next fw release. Regarding lap count I have never had problems with stroke detection or lengths count, I usually swim 3km per session 3 times a week and I tried Garmin swim, Fenix 3, 920xt and 5x . I have never had any problems with all these devices... Something I miss one length and sometimes butterfly recognise as freestyle but only if I use fins...

I think it's a problem possibly related to the data field itself and not to the app. Let's see what they come up with. By now I'm on my third week without F5X. I am supposed to know what's going on but I don't.
