All day stress always reports HIGH since update 7.60

I know that the update was supposed to improve the reliability of the all day stress reading. However, for me it's done exactly the opposite. Since the update, my stress reading is always MEDIUM to HIGH (51 to 100) even when I'm sleeping! Is anyone else seeing this???

My wife's Vivoactive3 has also gone bad regarding the all-day-stress values recently.

Here is what mine (Fenix5) used to look like normally before firmware 7.60, and how it looks now everyday, no change if you are resting, moderately active, sleeping, cooling down after a hard workout, rest days, etc ... doesn't matter, its the same erratic patterns everyday throughout the day.

My watch is behaving excatly like yours after 7.60. I really liked the stress feature when it was working, now it mostly annoys me. Factory reset fixes this for few days, then the issue is back. Garmin, please fix this.
  • Yesterday I did a factory reset on my VA3 - image attached.. now it looks far better. Try it

Unfortunately, the effect of the hard reset only lasts for a few days and they it will start to go bad again.

Deep — I have never had much success with e-mail support. I usually call and get much better response that way. It hasn’t fixed the stress issue, but at least I got to talk to someone about it.

If anyone is having this issue, please call Garmin Support to complain. I am not sure how much they read the forums, so I’m not sure they are seeing how many people are affected by this. When I called Support, they said that the algorithm was FirstBeat technology — they just implement it, so not sure how much they can do about it since they are relying on FirstBeat to figure it out. My husband’s VivoSport does the same thing on ME, but not on him, so all I can figure is that whatever the algorithm is, it does not work well with however my heart works.

My experience with customer support here is basically a standardized response saying that they are not aware of any issue and blaming any issue on any third party apps installed, or needing a hard reset, etc... they didn't sound like they even bothered making a note to investigate the issue even after showing threads here with all the people reporting it as well.

My wife's VivoActive3 is doing the same thing with the stress values. So seems like a Garmin watch wide issue as you say, which may point to the integration of the Firstbeat algorithm. And doesn't seem like it's going to get fixed anytime soon.

What is interesting is that this feature used to work before firmware 7.60, which advertised an improvement in precision in all-day-stress readings, so maybe it wasn't working well before either, as I recall, values may have been a bit too low and uneventful back then but its hard to say, but after 7.60 it was definitely broken and went the other way completely.

I'm having same issue that is why i signed up for the forums. Fenix 5S was working fine on stress level stats. Now it shows high stress all day and all night and I'm also shown as being in deep sleep with very high stress levels. Sounds like Garmin isn't too invested in correcting chronic issues. Maybe I should return this very expensive watch while i can still get a complete refund.

I can say it seems to work well for me.

One thing that I've noticed is that any significant amount of alcohol will drive it nuts. I can have maybe one pint of beer a few hours before bed, anything more than that and it effects the stress rating a LOT. If I go out and have a boozey night and get to bed late, the stress will be pretty much red-lining all night until about 5am. If I don't drink any alcohol at all before bed, then I get nice blue lines the whole night.

Alcohol is a nervous system depressant so it makes sense that it will make the heart more sluggish for a while afterwards, and temporarily yield a lower heart rate variability. i.e. higher stress values.
  • Did you tried?
    .
    1) Try to go sleep every day the same time and sleep minimum 8 h.
    2) drink water minimum 3 liter clear per day , no more 250ml per hour
    3) don't drink coffee or energize drink
    4) do not take any medicine
    5) don't do any sport
After 7 days should be fine
  • When I get afib then that stress scores go down. Otherwise it is just above 50. I reported to Firstbeat.
