Software Version Update and Consequent Issue(s)

It seems that every time I get a software update on my Fenix 5 it results in more issues than it solves. Is there anyway to stop updating the device software when I connect it via USB and run Garmin Express? I love the fact that Garmin tries to rectify problems with their device software, however; when it causes more problems than noted in the "fix log" something isn't right!
  • Settings> System> Software Update> Auto Update = Off.

I personally did this with the last update, as I had a big ride scheduled Saturday, and I knew a new release was about to "drop".

Most of the issues appear to be settings being incorrectly copied across from GC, and is easy enough to fix, but who wants to deal with this before a big event.

With autoupdate off, you can choose to wait and monitor these forums and understand what the likely issues are and install a few days later. Or you can hold off the update completely and wait for the X.1 version to come out.

  • OUTSTANDING - thanks for the feedback, I hope your event went/goes well.

I'm not sure this is the right thread, but I'm hesitant to start a new one - it could be more interesting to have a thread regrouping all 7.6 related issues. Anyway, for better or for worse, here goes: after the 7.6 update, my F5 stopped producing alert tones on laps during running. I've tried everything I could think of, short of a factory reset, to get them to work again (alerts during activity on/off/on, on watch, in GC, soft reset etc), but nothing seems to work. NB: the sound/speaker hardware works - when I turn key tones on, it beeps very nicely with every key press.
Second, since the 7.6 update I have had at least one occasion where the GPS took far longer than usual to lock on, and overall, I have the impression GPS accuracy has gone down after improvement under FW 7.1.
  • Well Gumbodad I've noticed multiple threads bringing up issues after the recent update (BT, heart rate, battery life, etc. - THE USUAL AFTER ANY GARMIN SOFTWARE UPDATE ) - it might not hurt to start a new thread and just title it something like that in hopes to capture them all in one place.
  • Gumbodad,

I think what you are looking for is called Autolap. (Not mentioned in your post).
  • Like Gumbodad, I'm experiencing an issue with alerts since the 7.60 upgrade. I have a 5 min/1 min Run/Walk alert set and since the upgrade, I don't get the audible alert, only the vibration. Same thing will my mile alerts. Any fixes found yet?
  • Since the 7.60 upgrade my 5x keeps reversing the run/walk. I do a 4/1 and it keeps reversing it to 1/4 (run/walk). It does it in all run modes. (Run, trail run, treadmill...)
Once I reprogram it (just before a run) it holds it for that run. Once it syncs, either over the air or hard wire - the reverse happens.

David-Mine is doing the exact same thing. I do a 5/1 and I'm finding that when I complete my run and sync, it reverses to 1/5. It's done it at least 4 times. Very annoying.

Quick update: I have now had two runs (trail run Sunday and run this morning) where the sound alert worked as advertised. Still don't understand exactly what happened. I can say though that before the Sunday run, I turned (sound) "alerts" to "on", to "off", and back to "during activity" - and hey presto. Similar to the issue we had earlier on with distance all of a sudden being measured in miles on the watch, when in GC and GC mobile everything was still set to metric.
    Oh well...
