F5x wrist heart rate is not working correctly

Is anyone experiencing problems with inaccurate WHR information?
Since the last update the Heart Rate information has been inaccurate. In my training it is very normal to surpass 177bpm (Zone 5> 166bpm).
Today it does not register above 166bpm (Zone 4 148-166bpm). Regardless of the level of training, in real time or registered in Connect.
I need help, I perform specific workouts in association with Heart Rate.
  • My biggest problem now is getting it taking accurate reads when starting an activity. Never had this issue before, and since mid 11.X this happens. When start an activity and the HR reads are sub 110 for a good 20-30m. Wear a strap its 145-180.

I get this may not be pinpoint accurate, and for me I don't need it to be. Generally I want to know how hard I worked and what zone I spent time in overall and in certain segments.

  • If you took time to cursorily look through the forum, you'd find out that "inacurate optical HR" is one of the most popular topics here.

If accurate HR reading during intensive workouts is critical for you, then your only option is a chest strap.

The ignorant condescension doesn't go over well. There is a problem with HR on this device. If you took the time to understand the issue, you wouldn't bother with such nonsense.
  • Outside there is a problem with HR on this device - yes - and the recent updates to software may have made it worse for some people and better for others and hopefully Garmin will continue to try and refine the algorithms. However that doesn't alter the fact that wrist based HR detection is very difficult to get to work for all activity types for all people. I think especially the heavier the watch gets the more likely it is to move on the wrist and so the more compensation is needed in the algorithm to try and and get a reasonable reading. I know it's not what people want to hear but a chest strap is the simplest route to accurate readings and is always likely to be more accurate tan the best wrist based detectors.

Yeah, I know. Sorry about that.

Need more people like you. Thanks for the civil reply, apologies for my own tone.

Same problem here. Previously good function of the optical HR sensor. Since end 2018 too low values maxing at about 115. In the past the comparison with use with my external HR sensor was ok now the optical one lost it Interestingly with more intense effort the HR on the watch trends downwards not up! . Going by these posts this seems to be a software update related issues that is highly in need for a fix dear Garmin!

My Fenix 5x wrist HR was working fine and displaying all the data. After the software update is measures my heart rate intermittently or not even at all. Did a "restore to defaults" and did the whole setup again and the problem is still there. it is very frustrating. Paying a whole lot of money and then it is not working properly.
