Fenix 5x firmware 7.60 seems to break backlight gesture

Since upgrading to 7.60 firmware today the backlight gesture movement no longer works
  • Hi everyone,

We are troubleshooting an issue with backlight settings that some users have experienced with the 7.60 update. We apologize for the inconvenience, I understand how frustrating this can be. We are developing a permanent fix for this issue, please keep an eye out for beta software updates (which will be posted here on the forums.)

In the meantime, we have a file you can install on your watch that will fix the backlight function. I've attached the file to this post. If you'd like to install it, plug your device in to the computer. Open the "Garmin" folder, then open the "NewFiles" folder. Put the attached "backlight_mode_fix.fit" file inside the "NewFiles" folder. Now unplug your device from the computer and you should be able to reconfigure your backlight to the proper settings

There is a possibility that future syncs with Garmin Connect will again send incorrect backlight settings to your watch. Again, we are working as fast as we can to completely resolve that problem. If you find that installing the attached file is only a temporary solution, my recommendation would be to remove your watch from your Garmin Connect account (and Garmin Express if you use that.) Then, after using the fix file and restoring your backlight settings, you can re-add your device to your account. If you follow these steps, you will not lose any data from your account. But it should “reset” the data that Garmin Connect could be sending you, and your backlight should stay functional.

If, worst case scenario, removing the device from your account and using this file still doesn't work, the next step would be a factory reset on the device and then re-adding it to your account. (1. Remove from account. 2. Install fix file. 3. Factory reset. 4. Reconnect to account.) If you'd prefer to bear with the bug for just a few more days and avoid a factory reset, we hope to have a software fix available within the beta update available sometime next week.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thanks,
    Mel

  • I have not run into THAT problem, but after 7.60 installed I did[/b] lose my "military time" setting; the watch rebooted a day after 7.60 loaded (on it's own, while I was driving -- not in an activity) and the setting was gone.

Connect still said I had military time selected, and a sync did NOT restore it. I was able to put it back on the watch itself, and so far it has held.

Heart rate algorithm still broken, resting heart rate is not working during the day if watch has been use during the night.
  • Now, I am third day on 7.91beta and backlight gesture issue is back. It doesnt work again. I dont want to do factory reset now. Probably I wait for permanent fix...if comes

Yep, and the compass is still twitching all over the place when leaving the watch off your wrist on a flat unmoving surface.

I find it interesting that Garmin says this rollout was 100% as of the 19th but I just got it today even though I've been syncing on the regular. Guess Garmin and the NSA had to rewrite special software just for me; this is what I get for prior service and now speaking up against the establishment. Interesting how it never alerted me to any updates. Don't tell me you can't screw with my device via serial # remotely, because when the bike maps "mysteriously" became "disconnected" from my account and didn't show any updates, Garmin level 2 tech support added the serial number back to the update server and within 5 minutes I was receiving an update for the cycle maps. I know you can push certain software to certain devices, meaning my serial number may get a different update than other devices; you have already proven it possible and I have it on a taped line with level 2 talking about how it's not only possible, but can be done if they need to push alpha/beta software directly to a device. They change the update server address, force the device to check for an update, push a different update than everyone else gets, and use the same version number. Criminals. Traitors.

How about you fix the compass?

***One glimmer of hope, the Tempe instantly connected.*** Now, let's see if it STAYS connected.
  • I had the backlight issue as well. I loaded the file provided in post #22 and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks Mel!!

The backlight gesture doesn't work on my fx5. The back button will activate the light. I'll wait for a update, no big deal. The watch is a Beast! I'm enjoying it...

The Backlight fix is actually in beta 7.93, rather than 7.91
