V02 max footpod cal

After a 5k park run at recovery pace (almost snail pace at the start as it was busy) I noticed my v02 max drop by 2 points (perf dropped 10 after first 6-7mins of calculating).

This is the first run I have tried with a Garmin footpod used for pace and distance set to all (pretty poor GPS during run), auto calibration on and cal factor 104 as that seemed pretty accurate against a reliable treadmill. Overall distance was 3 miles on my F5 compared to strava on my phone bang on 3.2.

I didn't save the activity on my F5 because the distance was off plus I had my phone anyway. But my v02 max has still dropped.

Is there a way to revert this? And will auto calibration set the factor to a higher number as it was out by a few hundred metres or will I have to set this?

Thanks
  • My vo2max has gone from 52 to 47 in the two weeks I've been using a stryd foot pod.. I'm sure I've read a thread somewhere on this forum that other users have experienced similar drops when using foot pods.

Same issue here VO2max dropped from 46 to 40 since using stryd.
  • Mine dropped 3 points with Garmin footpod but I believe that the correct numbers are after the drop, since now the 5K predictions are inline with the real values.
  • I wouldn't have such a problem with the drop if I had used GPS for distance and not had it set to outdoor/always with incorrect calibration (my mistake). The value was too lowe and it thought I had run 2.8k not 3.2 so therefore the pace was completely off but heart rate the same. Guessing it will level out after a few more runs with the correct distance/pace
  • I have Like that and I believe this correct this is your real vo2max, because when you use GPS so this is not high quality of data I think footpod collect all your steps and this is the Reason why is lower

No, that's not right. The footpod cal factor was set too low and being for outdoor distance so it only recorded 2.9 miles, not 3.2. F5 therefore sees my overall pace as lower for the same heart rate and then decreases the performance points.

Anyway, it doesn't matter now because I have had to reset my phone so I've since ran and cycled with power to V02 is back to normal again.

So you would like to say when you use footpod vo2max is fake? This bug Garmin know?

What? No, that's not what I am saying. The F5 thinks I am running at a slower pace with the same heart rate because the calibration was too low with the footpod. It therefore lowered my vo2 accordingly. A mistake which has since been rectified, but thanks for the input :-D
