Hi I have just bought a fenix 5 Saphire and appear to have no wrist based HR being recorded. When I start an activity or look at the HR widget there are no flashing green LED's from the sensor and the watch hasn't recorded any HR data over the 24 hrs. Weirdly If I start a bike ride it does give me some HR info until I hit stop however not sure if its at all accurate.

I have so far:

Rebooted
HW reset
Removed all other watch face widgets
upgraded to version 7.1
turned activity tracking on and off
turned RHR on and off

I imagine like my 225 or fitbit when I open the HR widget I should get green flashing LED's therefore does this just sound like a faulty sensor/watch....depressing as its 24 hours old

Slight update, it seems to work if I manually kick off a running/cycling session but doesn't work through to day so I have no resting HR for example...have I missed a switch?
  • Settings> Activity Tracking> Status = On. (Although it sounds like you have already done this?) I'd also suggest disabling the BT connection with the watch while you do this, as it may be that GC settings are overwriting the watch (in which case, change them there as well).

This sounds odd, as the sensor isn't faulty if it is working during an activity, and this is not general behaviour under 7.1 software.

Is there a BT or ANT+ HR chest strap in range that hasn't shut itself off? (the watch will take this data over the wrist OHR).

Quick update, called Garmin and they felt it was a sensor issue so I have sent it back and they will send me a replacement (I assume replacement as opposed to refurbished as it was 2 days old!)

A quick update for anyone in the future with the same problem. Garmin replaced the unit and I noticed straight away the green lights flashing and it all works....so originally definitely a HW issue with the 1st watch.
