Race Predictor/VO2 Max not showing on device

Hi folks, sorry to bother you all.

I've had my Fenix 5X for about a month now, and really loving it. About 5 days ago, I was scrolling through screens on the device and had a look at the Race Prediction screen. The predictions looked a bit too high to me, and after doing a bit of research around what they are based on, lowered my maximum heart rate by 1 bpm to see if that would make any difference.

Since then, the screen has completely disappeared! I've also noticed that my VO2 Max has stopped updating. Thought it might just take some more activities for it to appear again, but no... one run, two treadmill sessions and five cycles later it's never come back!

Any idea why? Wishing I'd never adjusted the heart rate maximum!
  • Treadmill sessions will not generate a new VO2Max figure. You need to run outside (use the "Run" app, rather than "Trail Run"), or cycle with a power meter to generate a VO2Max figure.

I'm guessing here, but I suspect that the race predictor has disappeared because your previous VO2Max figure is no longer valid with the change in MHR.

Thanks for the reply. My first activity after changing the max HR was a 5K run outside (using 'Run') but the VO2 Max didn't update. I'm wondering if that's perhaps because I didn't spend long enough in the anaerobic HR zones? No idea.

Anyway, I'll be running outdoors again tomorrow so will see if it updates this time...

It is not true. Last 2 months I have just treadmill runs and no one outside and I have VO2 Max increased from 41 to 47.
  • Unfortunately it's really icy today, so couldn't do a 5K or anything near. I ran 1.1 miles and sprinted at the end to get my HR up. My VO2 updated (to 59! DEFINITELY too high), which is promising. Still no predictions showing though.
  • Well, just ran another outdoor 5K and STILL no predictions showing up on my device.

My VO2 Max and Lactate Threshold both updated.

So absolutely no idea why the prediction screen no longer shows, and what I am supposed to do to restore it.

Also seems odd that the same can't be viewed via Garmin Connect.

EDIT - They're appeared again! Not sure what I did, or what it was but... yeah, great!

The estimates are wildly optimistic, but at least they're there!
  • I have my new Fenix 5X since this year, did 12 outdoor runs (with HR monitor and wrist pulse) and never had any VO2max, race prediction or fit status. I also figured out that the field "rest pulse" is always empty no matter what I enter there (manual value, average measured value). There seems to be an issue with VO2max maybe caused by the last update?
