Fenix 5 rebooting when connected to Garmin Connect App

Hi,

Wondering if anyone one can help.

Since the 7.10 update my Fenix 5 constantly resets itself while connected to the Garmin Connect App on my phone. It doesn’t have to be tracking - I did a restore to default settings in case it was corrupted files and it would cycle through a reboot while I was trying to re-input setup data. If I have the App closed the unit works perfectly.

I’m using an iPhone 8 with the most up to date release of Garmin Connect. I’ve also checked my iOS and it is the most current version.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

  • I am experiencing the same issue using a Samsung Galaxy S8. F5 will periodically (every minute or two) reset, displaying blue triangle screen, when it is connected to my phone with Garmin Connect App running. F5 runs fine when bluetooth is turned off on either the phone or the watch, or the app is closed. I also restored F5 to default, re-installed Garmin Connect App, ensured both were fully updated, and attempted to re-pair multiple times. F5 continues to reset periodically whenever it is connected to the App. Please let us know if there's a fix in the works.

Experiencing the same thing. Started yesterday 12/31. Running IOS 11.2.1 and latest version of app. The watch syncs well with connect web site through USB cable.
  • Just got my Fenix 5x With version 7.1 on12/30/17. Same issue as described above. iphone X with iOS 11.2.1, GARMIIN App version 4.1.5.1, GCS Version 4.1. It worked ok for indoor track run yesterday. But today keeps rebooting. Happens not tracking an activity, during an eliptical workout, during a treadmill walk, and during strength training (but lasted much longer doing the strength ~ 10 minutes before reboot. On the Elliptical it would go about 4-5 minutes before rebooting and about the same on the treadmill. I couldn't be more disappointed in a garmin product.
  • Try disabling the Bluetooth. Should stop the crashing as a temporary fix, but obviously you lose connectivity with the phone.

Delete any custom watch faces. And turn any calendar options off.

Correct, thank you- the crashing stops whenever bluetooth is disabled on either the phone or the watch, or when both have bluetooth on but the two aren't connected through the Garmin Connect App.

Delete any custom watch faces. And turn any calendar options off.

This was accomplished as part of the 'restore to default settings' attempt; no noticeable difference in frequency of reboots when the watch and phone are connected. Thank you for your help! Here's hoping for a software fix from the Garmin guys and gals soon.
  • Have not disabled bluetooth, but noticed a lessening of reboots after a watch reset and disabling (or not allowing) diagnostic data to go to Garmin.
  • Hi everyone,

We'd like to get some more information from those of you that are experiencing this. Please send us an email with the subject line "Bluetooth crash - Forums" to [email protected]. In this email please tell us:
    - the date and time that you saw a crash
    - the software version that your fenix is running
    - your phone model and software and your Garmin Connect Mobile app software versions
Please also plug your Fenix in to a computer and open the device folders. One of these folders will be named "Debug." Please attach all of these files in your email.

If you can force the crash to occur repeatedly, please do so and then immediately send us the App Sync Logs from your Garmin Connect app.

To access these on iOS click on "More" on the bottom right of the main screen. Scroll all the way down and select Settings. Scroll all the way down again and select Sync Reports. Select the most recent file (if you experienced a crash) and open it, then select the Send button in the top right corner. From here you can email us at [email protected].

To access Sync Logs on Android, press the menu button on the top left, then scroll down and select Settings. Scroll down again and select Device Sync Audit. Press the share button in the top right, and email us at [email protected].

    Thanks,
    Mel

  • Only one reboot since disabling garmin data submissions, automatic updates turned off, not setting up wifi, and prayer. Multiple running, elliptical, rowing, and strength workouts that were completed with no reboots. Don't want to jinx it by turning those things back on so I'll live without.

Also experiencing constant reboots since 7.10. Just mailed the information requested above
  • Ditto to above. Exact same problem any time I have the app opened on my phone either trying to sync after an activity or just in general use the watch goes into re-boot cycles, I often loose sleep data and etc. works fine of USB. I raised a case as this started happening to me the week I bought it early november, I'm now on my replacement watch that you sent be and immediately since first day of getting replacement I'm getting the same issue. will email the addres above and also re-open my case.
