Fenix 5X - 7.54 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

7.54 Change Log Notes:
  • Added the ability to access 'Broadcast Heart Rate' from the Controls menu (Settings > Controls) as well as through the system Hot keys (Settings > System > Hot Keys).
  • Improved the smart notification text layout for longer messages.
  • Improved manual weight entry for Rep Counting. When entering the weight for a set, the default value will be the weight entered for the previous set instead of 0.
  • Improved the VO2 Max gauge in the Performance widget so that the arrow indicator is more accurate.
  • Improved syncing of user settings and statistics between the device and Garmin Connect. Addresses issues like alarms being changed unexpectedly.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Lactate Threshold page in the Performance widget to not show if an auto-detected BPM value is the same as one that was manually entered.
  • Fixed an issue where the entered angle field would change its contents to a bad value within Jumpmaster.
  • Fixed an issue where the scrollbar would disappear momentarily when adding a chart page (for example altimeter) to the activity data field page loop.
  • Fixed an issue where the data field 'Gear Battery' showed no value on the Varia Vision.
  • Fixed an issue where laps were not being recorded correctly while performing a lactate threshold test.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note that the public beta's are intended for non-APAC devices only.

My first garmin was ~1995 (or so) so I'm used to this however I think it's finally time to call you guys on it as it's become unacceptable. This is a $700 fitness watch that's been on the market almost a year, in fact it's not far from twice as much as any (non limited edition) smart watch sold by Apple or Samsung. It's smartwatch capabilities are infinitely less than those two companies less expensive products but I knew that and I bought this as a health device not a smartwatch. With that said the actual cost to manufacturer this device can't be more than an Apple Watch, as that device has far more ram, a better processor, a MUCH higher resolution and better color screen, etc. You are greedy, you are money grubbing, you are destroying your own company/products, and you are incompetent. My 5x compass has been spastic for months and unusable, the Tempe/HR keeps disconnecting, HELL GARMIN CONNECT DOESNT EVEN COUNT STEPS RIGHT, and your rep admits it in an email.

Yep, my $700 pedometer that's been on the market almost up a year and about to be replaced by a new model still can't even COUNT STEPS right, and the company that made it just told me so...

Time for a lawsuit. How about you greedy slobs spend some of that obscene money your asking for this device on programmers that are at least smart enough program their way out of a shoebox. Incompetence, poor leadership from your executive team, poor communication about ongoing issues, etc. It shouldn't be almost a year after release and this $700 fitness trackers compass still doesn't work, never mind it CAN'T EVEN COUNT STEPS RIGHT. Pathetic. Fraud.

Edit: Correction, With the TriHR and Tempe, this is a $900 fitness tracker.

If you own stock in Garmin you might want to rethink that move, my prediction is they are about to take a tumble very soon due to a public release of information they don't want public and a class action lawsuit. Oh well overpaid executives can take a pay cut; not like the slobs actually run the company correctly as seen with this broken, fraudulent, falsely advertised, buggy mess of a device.

Wonder how much a forced recall of all fenix watches for bad compass sensors will cost Garmin? Because I now have it in writing it's a hardware issue and everyone seems to be having the problem; it's universal. See you in court.

Totally agree with you and more could have been said, but I guess I are too polite to write it.

It is not universal. I use my compass often - do you have a calibration problem? You have posted on the beta thread - are you running the beta firmware?

  • Please delete all alarms from the 3 platforms (watch, Garmin Connect Mobile, and Garmin Connect web). Once all have been removed, try re-adding an alarm on any one of those platforms and let us know if the alarm you created shows up properly at all 3 locations.

Tried that - set an alarm on the watch - it's just showing on the watch - not in the app - not in web.

New 'Added the ability to access 'Broadcast Heart Rate' from the Controls menu (Settings > Controls) as well as through the system Hot keys (Settings > System > Hot Keys)'.

That does work - but disappears after a while ... like we had in the past !!
