I received my new Fenix 5 yesterday (12/17), with software v7.00. With me standing outside my home, in the open, it was able to quickly acquire GPS signals. Today, I installed the v7.10 software, and the F5 does not get GPS, in the same location as yesterday; I have waited as much as 10 minutes before giving up on it. Seems to be a problem with v7.10.
I’ve been on 7.10 since last week and no problems with GPS. If you’ve tried all of the usual stuff like an off/on power cycle and a factory reset, and if that doesn’t work, then contact Garmin support in your region; not being able to acquire GPS at all is not normal.

Could you please tell me the first three digits of you new watch SN? I got a replacement from garmin a week ago and it was on FW 4.10 - I was hoping for something more recent, with my SN being 106XXX and till now the connectivity is better but the GPS worse than the watch before. So interested to see what the SN of a new watch is. Thanks.
I've had my watch for 9 months, just upgraded to 7.10 today and the GPS is fine. Walked outside and got a lock in 12 seconds under a cloud covered sky.
Update: after I posted the GPS problem statement, I reset the F5 to see if that fixed the problem; it did not. Next I called Garmin product support, who told me that the official release software was v7.00, and that I had installed the v7.10 beta. I did not install the beta; v7.10 was the production release installed by Garmin Express. They emailed me instructions for reverting back to v7.00 (locate the v7.00 gupdate.gcd file on my PC, copy it to the F5 \Garmin folder, and then disconnect/restart the F5), which I tried several times, none of which resulted in a reversion to v7.00. Finally, I performed a reset to factory defaults, and that fixed the problem. GPS working again, still v7.10, but I had to do all of my customizations again.
I am coming to the F5 from F630, F620, etc, and it is taking me time to adjust to the new menu system. One thing I have noticed that is functionally different from the recent Forerunners, and which I do not like, is that the F5 continues the activity lap timer after a custom workout has ended. I'd like to add a feature request for the Fenix: either change the Fenix to stop the activity when a custom workout ends, or put an option in the settings to allow the user to select whether or not to continue the lap timer when the workout has ended. Is there a "wish list" topic somewhere in this forum?
