Treadmill calibrated distance not sent to Strava

Did a treadmill run and did a calibration of the distance (Fenix 5X) according to the treadmill distance. Saved the data and Mobile Connect shows the new, calibrated distance but Strava show the distance before calibration?
  • What Strava gets is the FIT file from the watch just as it came off of it, presumably by WiFi or through your phone immediately after you saved it on the watch. No changes that you make afterwards, on the watch or on Garmin Connect, will make it to Strava. You'll need to delete the activity from Strava and export a FIT from Garmin Connect (not the original) and manually import to Strava to get the changes there.
  • The calibration of the treadmill distance was done immediately after the session and before the information was saved to the watch. This was done in the gym with no wifi or phone nearby. The session is saved in the watch (and Garmin Connect) with the calibrated distance but the session transferred to Strava is not the calibrated distance. I thinkt this is a software bug.
  • Maybe on Strava's end, but they get the exact same FIT file as Garmin Connect at virtually the same time (the flow seems to be frontend server -> GC and Strava simultaneously). So you should be posting this on Strava's forums.

Since the watch is calibrated now, did the same thing happen the next time you used it?
  • Hi digpix - I'm experiencing the exact same issue with my forerunner 935. Did you find a fix or workaround for this issue?
  • The treadmill calibration change amends the total distance covered, but does NOT change all the thousands of measuring points during the run. You can see that when you look at Garmin Connect for a run you calibrated at the end - your individual laps don't add up to the overall distance.

So my guess would be that Strava looks at the individual measuring points in order to do its own calculations and ignores the total distance recorded in the .FIT file. If that guess is wrong, then it's Strava that needs to do something to recognise the calibration rather than Garmin.
  • I have had the same issue with the 645 music. My previous watch (TomTom) would allow me to calibrate the distance at the end of the treadmill run and this data would be exactly the same on Strava and the TomTom app. Since getting the 645 I can calibrate and save the treadmill however what shows up on Strava is the original distance the watch recorded at the end of the run but before I saved. Eg this morning was 6.4 km however the watch only had me at just over 6 km. Garmin connect has the correct distance as does MapMyRun but Strava still only shows 6 km. It's not a big deal but I'm in various clubs on Strava for distance etc and getting short changed!!
  • And still an issue today… finix 6

Really, is there no fix for this Garmin???

  • +1   here. Forerunner 245. No way this is possible to get it right. Garmin watch and Garmin connect shows correct (after calibrating distance and saved to watch. What exporting fit-file and importing it to Stava the distance always shows distrance from watch (forerunner 245) BEFORE calibrating and saving. Not possible to understand why, and not possible to do anything about it.
