Fenix for military use question...

Evening: grateful for any advice or tips: I recently purchased a Fenix 5 (non-sapphire), because I was on a training course, and all the instructors had them. And I am impressionable.

I wear it constantly, and love the training feedback it gives me. The GPS, Altimeter and Barometer are also really useful, and as long as I calibrate, they seem to be pretty accurate.

I am interested to know whether anyone uses their Fenix for extended periods in the field, and whether any preparation/accessories are required. Or do you all go back to your G-Shocks when you're digging holes in the ground?

I have used and badly scratch fenix 2 and 3 in the back of a CV90. Swedish armoured veichle.
The fenix 5 is still scratchfree.

I have changed to a regular strap like a natostrap but with common fastening. From zuludiver.

BLUF - the Fenix 5 is fine for most occasions, but do keep a simple backup watch too.
Just apply the same common sense as you would to take off even a G-Shock type watch (assault course training and the like), but otherwise the Fenix line are robust for general use in my experience. I’d hope your instructors would insist on taking any wrist watch or jewellery off during certain activities anyway, from a purely safety perspective (anyone who has seen a digit stripped of skin after a ring has got caught whilst supporting body weight will know why). Worth also keeping a cheapo G-Shock (or similar) watch to hand for those occasions where a watch that has any kind of transmission capability is not permitted for operational security reasons too.

Those are good recommendations and OPSEC is something that wouldn't have occurred to me especially with a WIFI enabled device. It might be of limited use information wise but still something to consider.
