Why does my Fenix 5X refuse to give a temperature reading based on its internal sensor when it has previously been paired with a tempe? I have to disconnect the tempe (even though the tempe is not in range) to get a reading. It doesn't refuse to record an optical heart rate when the heart strap is paired but not available. So this doesn't make sense.
Seems like an obvious firmware oversight that should be fixed. This is like permanently disabling the optical HR sensor just because a HR strap was once paired.
I'm for removing the thermometer completely since it doesn't give an accurate reading anyway a while ago with the tempe paired it did give the reading without tempe being in range but out of late no more, as Jim said... not to mention the useful widget (downloading at once and replacing garmin's. You're DA MAN!!!!)
The internal temp sensor is important for the barometer/altimeter. Removing it would be bad. Once you pair a tempe, just use Jim's widget to replace the garmin version
My 5X seems to show the internal temp when the TEMPE disconnects—have only observed this in recorded activities where you see the “spikes” in temp for short periods or at the beginning of an activity before the TEMPE connects.
any reason to use the internal thermometer for anything? Actually, I am quite surprised Garmin does indeed provide any value from it. It is typically so off, that it makes no reason to use or present. 920XT also had an internal thermometer, but it was hidden from the user.
