Fenix 5X not displaying neighborhood streets

So I attempted to use the map feature the other day while I was in San Francisco. Seeing as I was not familiar with the area, I figured the Fenix Map might help out during my run. After selecting it, I noticed none of the streets were showing up, only major freeways. Additionally, when I open up the map back home (Palm Springs) and the same thing happens?

Am I wrong in assuming the Fenix 5X is not capable of displaying streets?

Sounds like you had the wrong mapset activated or maybe more than one . Mine shows all streets and street names depending on zoom level

Hmm... Where are you located, and which maps are you using? These are the only maps that came on my Fenix 5X - Worldwide DEM Basemap, TopoActive Europe v4 West, TopoActive Europe v4 East, Garmin Cycle Map EU 2017.10 - It was purchased here in the US from a big retailer.

Also, did you have to purchase CityNavigator separately?

You have an european version of the 5x - it shows only major roads of the world basemap in the USA. You have to buy a garmin street map/topo map of the USA or download a free osm USA map on your unit

You should have got the US maps if you purchased it here.

Have you ever sync'd with Garmin Express on the PC/MAC? Although I purchased my 5X in Australia, I have worldwide maps available:

The maps you have mentioned, are (only) maps for golfing;)

My understanding is the course view maps will show you roads and towns but not road names etc. The topo map is what contains the street names, etc - also with the cycle map.

You can open them up in basecamp and see the detail levels. You'd need to get the right maps for the watch region or use third party maps - I did similar in France and London.
