Fenix5 & Base Camp

I am used to workign with Base Camp and my F1 for a couple of years and am used to being able to drag tracks and waypoints from Base Camp to the F1 and visa versa.

When I drag waypoints from Base C amp to the F5 there appears to be a limit of 8 characters, this would appear to be a retrograde upgrade. Is there a fix on the way or is this the new standard.

And coupled with this I normally set the proximity alarm in (for example say 10M for each waypoint) Base Camp and this imports nicley into the F!. But in the F5 this data is lost in the drag process. I have figured I can see and set the proximity alarm in the waypoint list visible in the F5 using Base Camp. But then in the field the proximty alarm does not not actually function.

It looks like I can set the proximity alarm for each waypoint inside the F5, but I've not tested if this works yet and this would be seriously tedious for a course with 200 waypoints.

Most of my use of the GPS functions is off track bush navigation so the way point functions are very important.

Am I using the wrong PC software with Base Camp? Or are these issues Garmin is still working out?
  • The methodology to set a proximity alert for a waypoint / location is seriously ridiculous in the F5.  It is a million button pushes to do it on the F5 itself for each waypoint.

When copying a waypoint from Base Camp to the F5 the proximity alert data which is easy and quick to set in Base Camp is lost.

And on the F5 the best you can set is a 50M alert.  Can we have this to be at least a 10M alert as is possible in the F1?

While I'm at it the Notes data is also lost when copying a waypoint from Base Camp to the F5.  And worse there is no apparent provision for notes data for a waypoint in the F5.  A very sad an very inconvenient loss.

The F5 does allow up to 15 (yippee) characters for a waypoint description which is still too short, but bearable if there was a notes provision.

Last I looked neither Garmin Explore nor Garmin Connect let you do much with waypoints.  Please correct me if something has been done here.
