Did I make a mistake?!?

Sooo... I’ve wanted the Fenix 5s in Rose Gold for many months!!!

Hubby gave me the go ahead to get it, but I wasn’t confident in spending the money. I started
to look at the 935 and 735xt instead as they’re on sale.

I came across an insane deal on the 5s yesterday and jumped on it and bought it!!

I was super excited about it until
I came on this forum!!! I have read about some of the issues people are having.

Needless to say, I’m starting to worry about my decision.

Looking for some feedback from people who are happy with their 5s’s please :)
  • No, you haven't, enjoy your watch and don't come back here until you have a specific problem ;)
  • On thing to keep in mind, is that many people only post here when they have problems, and there are many that are happy and don't post. I've had a f5 since it came out, and while there have been a couple bugs, I'm really happy with it.

I have the rose gold since April. Sure it isn’t perfect, however the quality of my life has gotten better as I change my behavior.

Also, you will look good at the same time.
  • Misheemee, any forum will have lots of people that have issues. Those that are happy are out running, cycling or just enjoying their watch. I have had zero issues with my watch and the only reason I am on the forum is to download the beta software.
  • Go for it! I got my 5 (not 5s) a month ago. I've had the original Vivoactive, the Vivosmart HR+ and some smart watches up until now. Been very happy with my purchase.

I agree that the forum can create a sense that the watch is problematic but like Jim_m_58 stated, this is where people go when they have questions or issues. I'm sure there are a lot of happy Fenix users who've never had a need to visit here.

I've seen more issues as a result of something breaking with Garmin Connect like when it wouldn't sync with the alarms on the watch. But typically Garmin fixes these pretty quickly. Not sure what kind of watch you're coming from, but one word of warning when you first get the Fenix. I was used to touchscreen devices (had considered the new Vivoactive 3) but opted for the Fenix in part due to some of the problems the touchscreens have with water, sleeves, etc. After the first few days, I was not sure I'd made the right choice with going with a button-based interface. Seemed like it was a pain (literally in some cases relative to my arm hairs). The issue was simply that there are so many options on the watch in terms of configuring it, the system settings and the activities that I spent those first few days mashing the crap out of the buttons. Some things are configurable through the app, but many aren't. Now that the watch is mostly the way I want it and I'm interacting with the watch, not configuring it, I'm as happy as could be. No idea if that will be relative to you or your experience, but wanted to share that.

  • Out of interest, where did you end up buying the 5s, and what offers did you find for the 935? Still trying to decide which one to go for!!

    Thanks,
    Joe
  • I've had the 310, 910, 920, and now the 5S and I LOVE IT!!! Obviously I bought it for triathlons, but it's so small I wear it comfortably 24/7 and don't always take it off even to shower. I get all this sleep info that I never had before (HR in particular) and the darn thing 'just works'. I've done many pool and open water swims with it (perfect), runs, and bike (but really get data from my Edge devices).

It's great for hiking or camping but terrible for running. The GPS is a seriously weak component.
  • agreed - majority are posting on here after finding an issue. There will be tonnes who just adore the watch. I went for the F5 after having VAHR for a year and love it, albeit some issues with the optical HR, but overall, it's a fantastic watch. Admittedly I was between the F5 sapphire and 935 but I wanted a durable watch that felt the price and that I wouldn't have to worry about getting scratched.
