When 5x not in use

Hi

I don't sleep with my 5x (for fear of damaging it). What is the best thing to do... Switch it off or leave it on next to my bed? It seemed to struggle to get going this morning in terms of the step counter and the heart rate had turned off.

Also in the morning it doesn't auto reconnect to my phone. I have to delete the pairing and start again.

Any tips?

Thanks
  • Man you must have some rough nights if you are going to damage an F5X in your sleep! I've slept with my F3 and F5X on my wrist for 2.5 years now and not noticed any "damage" the next morning. Having your sleeping HR recorded can be useful.
  • The HR turns off within a few seconds of your taking the watch off, and should restart as soon as it detects movement AND skin close to the sensor.

In terms of reconnecting, (at least on Android), I go to the Bluetooth settings page on the phone, - I don't need to actually change anything, just going to the settings page seems to do it. Look for the connection status on the watch to go from "Waiting for Phone" to "Open App on Phone"

Thanks - so you reckon its pretty damage proof in terms of screen scratches in particular. Lol - I can assure you the nights are peaceful, I just dont want to damage the watch or get it scratched.

Thanks for this. I have tried and sometimes it just refuses to connect. Could it have something to do with what else is connected to the phone? Its a tad irritating to have to keep reinstalling it and losing the dynamic step count adjustment for each day
  • Its pretty hard to scratch that screen - not impossible but you would have to be sleeping with some pretty rough material in the bed to get that to happen! I wouldn't worry about scratching or damaging that part at all! I don't even bother with screen protectors with mine - wacked it on a lot of things like trees, etc, and it still looks perfect.

What I did was put on a screen protector as an additional layer of protection for the screen. I figure it is solely for my peace of mind. The bezel is incredibly hard to scratch, however. I have banged it against doors and metal and still do not have a scratch (knock on wood).

I've slept with mine on every night (and my Fenix 3 before I got the 5X) and have never had any damage from that. The screen on the 5X is sapphire and is incredibly hard so it takes quite a lot to scratch it.
  • I had Vivosmart, Fenix 3 and Fenix 5X and if I could scratch something, that was when I was awake. :D
  • Thanks everyone. Gonna import me a screen protector.

You don't need a protector for a 5X. The sapphire glass is really strong.
