XC Skiing is NOT ski touring/skimountaineering/Skimo
I am waiting for a dedicated app for years, but anything else seems more important (e.g. Mecca Finder or the Garmin Watchfaces) than a sport app for a sport watch.
If there's not the app you want on the watch or in the app store, you can always suggest one in the Connect IQ App Ideasforum. Maybe a 3rd party developer will build an app that does it.
(disclaimer: it won't be me, as I live in a desert where it never snows :) )
I cannot believe that a sports watch that pretend to be the best for mountain sports, does not have a dedicate app for skimo/skitouring. I feel very stupid for not checking before...
Good luck. I suggest for years now, that orienteering to be added to the list of sports. Orienteering runners use GPS watches to replay the race and analyze mistakes.
Over those years my request was always ignored but many other sport like Yoga or Obstacle running were added. To me this looks like Garmin is more interessted in gaining new customers by adding their sport than keeping existing customers happy. Yes I can live with the fact that my ocasional orienteering races with rather low pace compared to street running destroy all kind of running metrics. But it is a pain in the a...
One main "issue" is, that I always have to reclassify my activity as I cannot choose skimo when copying and "re-using" an app. Currenty I use XC Ski and have to switch activity type to skimo afterwards. When you build an app, you can't choose the activity skimo in the code. It is just "other" ("Sonstiges" in german). A friend of mine tried to develop one but it is not allowed to choose skimo (which actually exists as sport activity as you know). This is ~1 year ago. Maybe it is now possible, but I think that there would be some Skimo-Apps already.
Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I’m now testing the existing apps to understand if there is one that could be ok for skitouring. My expectation was to find a dedicated app for skitouring based to the fact that this watch has been advertiesed with skitouring action pictures and promoted as the best watcfor mountain sports. But this is marketing and I should know...
Funny, isn't it. I use modified hiking. I can live with it, however annoying the subsequent re-classification of the activity is. I fully agree that not having ski touring in a watch marketed as this is a joke, given what other kinds of utter nonsense gets in. The perfect app would behave like a specific multisport where the parts when you are skinning up would behave like hiking and the descents would behave like downhill skiing. Tracking the transitions independently would be helpful, too. A can get around the problem somehow but missing this is absurd.
