Alarms

Alarms set up directly on the watch are being overriden when syncing with the phone with alarms sets on the phone via garmin connect.

This means if you add an alarm through the watch, when the watch connects to garmin connect it will delete that alarm. Same thing if you try to edit an alarm.

I wonder if garmin can fix this. It was a good thing being able to set the alarm via the watch only, like on the old fenix 3.

Anyone knows if this is a bug or a feature and thus "working as intended" (but then, if so, why give the possibility to setup alarm through the watch if they are overridden and thus completely useless?)
  • Been mentioned/discussed several times here :). Please search the forum if you want more "re-assurance". But, the bottom line as far as I remember - it's a bug, mainly on Garmin Connect side, not the watch itself and Garmin is fully aware.
  • Indeed, it is something long discussed. Basically, logic states you should be able to set up your alarms, meant to ring in your watch, from the watch itself; logic states if your watch allows you to create/modify alarms, then you should be able to do so and if able then the watch should keep those changes. Garmin defies logic, and has stated that the actual behavior is indeed intended, it is a feature. That's what they said when I contacted support a while ago.
  • Recent acknowledgement that Garmin know about this and are trying to fix it https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into...42#post1272942

The alarm being disabled after a GC sync is still being actively worked. The teams working on this hope to have the permanent fix rolled out in the near future. We apologize for the delay.
  • So I’m not 100% sure if this is due to the latest beta firmware or the connect iOS update earlier this week but I now have the opposite issue.

Whereas as before my app alarm settings were overwriting any changes I made on my watch I now can’t set or change any alarms on my phone - they get overwritten by whatever settings are currently on my watch.

I know now that’s what most users have been asking for but having gotten used to having to set alarms on my watch it would’ve been nice to get a heads up that Garmin we’re finally making changes.
  • Something is changed.
My connect don't overwrite the alarms upon sync. But i does not update the clocks settings either.
Maybe we can walk away from connect changing alarms now.
When i changed an alarm in connect and synced, it added it as a new alarm to the clock.

Needs some digging to find out all features.
Im on android, latest connect and beta fw on fenix5
  • Still an issue F5 software 6.00. V annoying.

Garmin Connect, where do you find the version info for this???
  • The solution is you need to set up any alarms you want to keep by setting them up inside Garmin Connect - Device Settings. When you sync the alarm is loaded to the fenix5.

If you enter the alarm on the fenix5 it will be over written by any alarms (or no alarms) by Garmin Connect rather than a proper synchronization operation.
