Hello Fenix 5S/5 users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

The system, BLE/ANT/SNS, and WiFi (if applicable) software have been updated in this beta. Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below.

Fenix 5S: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11661
Fenix 5: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11663

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

6.83 Change Log Notes:
• Improved Training Status and Training Load now updated with heart rate data that is stored on an HRM-Tri or HRM-swim and sent to the watch.
• Improved Compass steadiness when still and responsiveness when moving.
• Fixed an issue causing the backlight to remain on while on the charging page.
• Fixed issue causing the Start/Stop and Lap keys to only clear notifications when they are displayed instead of also performing their general function (for example, starting the timer and recording a lap).
• Fixed an issue preventing Work from being displayed on Varia Vision.
• Fixed an issue preventing Lap HR % Max from being displayed on Varia Vision.
• Fixed an issue causing the Best Power personal record to be displayed incorrectly.
• Fixed an issue causing Wi-Fi Networks to be displayed in Garmin Connect Mobile for devices without Wi-Fi.
• Added support for Connect IQ SDK 2.4.1.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line

Please note that the public beta's are intended for non-APAC devices only.

Installed - no issues during installation. But, it looks like it killed my favourite watchface ("My Watch"). Getting the IQ with yellow exclamation mark. Can someone try checking if this watchface works with this beta - linked below. I tried uninstalling, restarting, installing again via phone, or Garmin Express, same problem. Perhaps should report it to the developer, but seems like he is not that active anymore... :(

Same for me. My Watch v1.4 Looks like the developer just updated the watch face on Monday, so I would hope they would respond.

pretty cool battery charging animation. or it would be old and never noticed it.
• Not sure if I've seen the update show each step like this one did. I'll try it tomorrow on a swim and either bike or run.
• Since the update Stress levels are not syncing with Garmin connect even though the watch is recording them as I have a full 4 hour graph on the watch but nothing at all registered in the app, it simply says “no data”

It did register after a WiFi sync though

Battery charging "Pie Chart" - whilst I am not a fan of it I notice that you only get it when unit is plugged into PC/Mac..... when charging via some other source (powered USB Hub, battery pack or wall power outlet) there is no pie chart or discoloured screen.
• Barometer trend arrow seems to be much more "active" since the update. I've hardly seen it move in the past unless elevation also changes (which I've never understood) but today the elevation is staying stable (so far) but the trend arrow is indicating a drop in air pressure.
• rickj,

Perhaps check the barometer settings for watch mode - auto, altimeter, barometer. It makes a difference as to the watch assuming measured pressure changes are due to elevation changes or ambient air pressure changes.
• Hi mcalista,

Barometer is set to Auto, always has been on two different units and I still don't understand why the elevation and the air pressure both change at the same time. Also they change in the wrong direction, if the air pressure drops then surely elevation should increase? Although ideally only one of them should change and the watch should be able to calculate whether its air pressure OR elevation that has changed.
• Pressure decreases as Elevation increases.
AFAIK the only sensor is actually a Barometer (or at least something that can gauge pressure differences although not the actual pressure and that is why it needs calibration sometimes).
Now, when the sensor measures a pressure pressure it can be either because your surrounding air pressure dropped or because you are at a higher altitude which has a lower pressure. The Fenix 5 (and every other device with such sensor) just tries to guess what happened when it is set to "Auto". That is why sometimes going up on a fast elevator might trigger a storm alert or if you are running or biking and the pressure starts dropping your watch might think you are actually going upwards while you are not. You do have the possibility to set the sensor as just barometer (indicating it should take any pressure change as just pressure change) or altimeter (indicating that any pressure change is indeed an elevation change) but I do not see how that might be useful besides maybe some specific scenarios from time to time

Hi SanchoEDLP

This is my point, both of my units have shown a DECREASE in elevation when the air/barometric pressure has dropped, if the air pressure drops then you would expect elevation to increase if the unit thinks the change is not due to atmospheric changes.
