Only had this watch for a week now (had the f?nix 3 (non-HR) for years before this one). It seems the HR measurements for my bike commute are heavily skewed. I was hoping to get some HR information without needing a chest strap, but it looks like the wrist measurements is completely oblivious to changes while riding. It's like I'm doing nothing. Going to verify and wear one of my straps home today, but wanted to get some feedback from others on how well it's working for other biking.
I assume you went through the usual "OHR 101": check if light can't get to the sensor (you shouldn't be able to fit more than one finger under the watch band), the watch isn't over your wristbone and that the ride isn't overly bumpy. I had no major issues during my recent commute.
It's a common problem that the vibration from the handlebars can mess with wrist OHR from cycling - although personally I have found it seems reasonably accurate for me (although I use a chest strap because trying to view the watch data on my wrist is awkward.
And I agree with the previous comment about OHR 101.
Yesterday afternoon I work my HRM-Run strap for commute home and got my heart rate down perfectly as expected. I feared I would have to deal with this problem forever. I then took cinched up the band another notch beyond what I thought might be uncomfortable. That did the trick. Commute this morning recorded entirely different readings for my HR. Expecting the same when I go home too. Band still comfortable at this level, so I think I'm good for now.
