F5x Cracks on HR sensor resin due to curing fault

Hi
an heads up following several reports, substantiated by pictures, of f5x owners having cracked (christallized shall i say) HR sensors, which apparently is due to manufacturers curing defects that cause the transparent resin to disintegrate with heat excursion.
I had my f5x replaced no question asked by Cotswalds outdoor shop in uk, can't fault them.
Do have a look at the transparent plastic around the 3 green leds, if you see lines when shining a light on it your watch is affected.
I will try to post a picture here. Apparently this happened on fenix 3hr too
Cheers

Is it disrupting the sensor? Is water resistance broken becouse of these cracks?

No, mine was still waterproof and sensor was working. However, i have not tested the watch at its declared 30meters and if mine got that bad within 4 months from purchase it means at some point it would have come apart, perhaps after a small drop.
get your watches replaced, 620£ you want a mint one not flawed one

Mine has 2 cracks already, about 2 months from purchase and not used at work... im really dissapointed that they released not tested device for 900 euro.
Its declared 100 meters, probably pressure at that depth will tear the watch apart with these cracks ;)

Im thinking, what when same will happen with replaced watch? sending for guarantees till end of my days??

Well, start by replacing your faulty one, then wait to see if the new one breaks.
if it was a failty batch it could have affected only early models. The more people post about this issue the less likely that garmin will ignore it. Do post your comments here and add the initial digits of the serial number, this way we might work out which batch was affected.
My faulty one was S/n: 54H031766.

I got 3 year guaranty, so I think I will wait a while, track topics and see what happens.
  • I've got one of the earliest 5x units (bought it on release) and there are no flaws in the resin around my HR sensor LEDs. Just checked it.....

It's only off my wrist when it's on charge... which is about once a week for an hour or so :-)
  • I noticed this on my 5x also.
  • I have the same cracks on my F5X S/N: 54G027925
  • My original seemed ok - was an early number. So far so good on this one too - 54G050192. I don't swim but wash it daily.

If this one exhibits that issue, after the debacle with the charging cable, I'll just sell that replacement and look for something else! Would be the final straw for me - went through too much crap with the 300 dollar MS band, not going down that path with something that cost 850!
