Temperature (calibration) on the 5X

Would there be any idea in adding some way to calibrate the temperature on the 5X? For example if you know the exact room temperature at a given time, would it be possible to input that and it would automatically deduct you body temperature from that value = allowing you to see either the room temperature or your body temperature. I of course understand that the room temperature can vary a lot, but could the weather data on the watch be incorporated to this equation to dynamically change the value? Would this be too complex or impossible?

It's obviously an easy and good idea at the same time... but I am afraid the DEVs have more pressing matters.
Until something like that is developed, the best thing is the Tempe... personally, I would completely remove the internal thermometer but i really really hope they take your suggestion (we suggested that many times already... to no avail, though).
  • If you want to see the ambient temperature (or as close as possible), get a Tempe Sensor. The only thing that could be done calibration is to add some kind of a "bias" to the internal reading, but determining that bias isn't easy, as it's impacted by things like if you are wearing the watch, are you wearing long sleeves (which may insulate the watch), are you in the sun, etc.

And consider the times when the ambient temp is close to body temperature or above it (it was 119F a few days this summer for me!)

I use an #3 S-Biner clip with mine, and can easily clip it in the best place - pack strap, under the bike seat, etc.

Remove the temp sensor, or disable the ability for its data to be displayed? The temp sensor is required for calibration of the barometric sensor, FYI.

Like Jim, I use a Tempe and from his suggestion I'm also using the #3 S-Biner...great combo.
  • As reported here : https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5-5s/1267014-internal-temperature-is-no-correct it would be the solution for many users (like me) for uncalibrated thermo sensor! Just wrote to beta team, reported idea and contacted Garmin support...
  • If someone paypaled you $25 for a tempe sensor, would that make you happy? :) There is a reason the Tempe exists!

Do you have a picture showing us your set up with the #3 S clip biner and the Tempe? I am thinking about getting one of those for my Tempe so would be nice to see your set up...

I own a Tempe sensor I don't need 25€ for buying it, however, thank you, I just want ability to calibrate internal thermometer

Here's a quick photo of mine as I actually did the same thing. Just drilled a small hole in the "tongue" of the clip and run the S-biner through it. I also added a rubberband just as a precaution to hold the Tempe in the clip in case it was getting bounced around while dangling from the clip.

If the thermometer can't give you an accurate reading it's as good as USELESS in the watch.
Provided Garmin really wanted to make it work, even without an internal themometer, the pressure/temp variation may come from a more reliable source such as the cell phone -> internet -> weather stations. I am well aware of the impact of temperature on the baro but Garmin is not willing to disclose how the elev calculations are computed, hence since the very first F3 release, I've noticed incongruences in a A -> B -> A pattern (going down to sea level and coming up to start point) but it's not clear whether it's a software calculation error or the temperature variation of a sensor that should be utterly removed from the watch (unless made to be working properly, which it doesn't).

    Here ya go!
The S-Biner is flat, and the Tempe just clips on it.

Another approach I've seen is someone fashioned a attachment for the Temp so it clipped in the bill of their hat. I forget where I saw that one though.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1271866.png
