Fenix 5X connection issue

I got the 5X as replacement for a 3 (non HR). The 5X very often cannot reconnect to Garmin Connect after losing connection and coming back into its range. Meaning moving out of it‘s range and coming back into it it often will not connect and Sync even when forcing until I re-start the phone. I also tried switching BT on and off on the phone but doesn’t do the trick either. The 3 pretty much never had that issue. I am using an iP6s with iOS 11 and the 5X is on 6.0.
Anyone having the same issue? Any tips to resolve?

    Same here.... Very, very annoying.
  • From what I hear, this is an issue for people running iOS with the latest version of GCM, and affects both fenix 3 and fenix 5. It appears to have started with the latest GCM update and requires the iphone to be restarted to fix it until it happens again, when another restart is needed. I have not heard of anyone on Android suffering the same issue.

I've got issues (drop-outs) also with my Android smartphone (Nexus 6P) since the very beginning (May 2017).
Bluetooth capabilities of Fenix 5X are very weak in my own opinion and communication is also a drama with external HR chests (i.e. Polar H7, H10).
ANT+ is also disappointing with the Garmin HR chest as well.
  • I have noticed that lately with my iPhone. I found if I went to the quick buttons the watch would show searching for phone. I found if i stopped that, started that, then resync blue tooth on phone it came back without a restart. Bit of a pain.

RMAed F5x can't auto-sync after session is saved, nor does it autoupload through wi-fi. It all works when forced sync via Controls Menu sync shortcut which means ble, pairing, wi-fi and gcm are working. It's got to be the 6.0 FW because IIRC, the previous F5x (broken baro) which didn't have any of these problems (2 min after activity was saved, GCM notified me of activity ready for viewing and without cell phone, when coming back from the pool, the F5x delivered to GC via wi-fi before I even put the keys in the lock of my front door (wi-fi on the other side of the house).

    I think it's 6.0.
(I mailed the devs yesterday about this)

Connection issues are very annoying. Now I can't use F5X with my phone which has Android 7.0 because suddenly it lost connection and now I can't pair it back together (like I said in my topic:
[...] Paircode is visible maybe 2-3 seconds and is immediately changing to another one... about 5-6 times and I get information pair failed.[...]

My problem is with WIFI synchronization, shortly after upgrading my 5x to firmware 6.0, wifi sync stopped working, I did everything, I reinstalled the wifi networks on both the 5x and the smartphone, I reinstalled the GCM app on the smartphone and nothing solves, does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you.
I use an Android 7.1 smartphone.

I have also run into the bluetooth problem where the only solution is to reboot the phone. This is an iPhoneX running 11.1.1
