Just in case anyone's interested - I know the silicone ones have been available for a while with the quick-fit attachment, and there have been a few people who've found the attachment isn't as secure as a genuine Garmin one (and the lack of torx screws at both ends) - however I get on with my cheap silicone one quite well at work where I've modified it to let me wear the 5X on my upper arm (we have to be bare below the elbows).
I recently spotted an aliexpress seller (I can provide exact details if you're keen, but don't want to come across as a shill!) selling metal bands for the 5X with the quick-fit attachment for about $20. I decided to take a punt on a black band and it's arrived - photos enclosed.
Seems fairly decent quality- I'll try to remember to post back here about how long the black finish lasts (I debated silver to avoid the issue, but for the moment black looks better!). The quick-fit looks similar to the silicone band (philips screws) - I can't get it to pop off "accidentally" without springing the tab the way you're supposed to remove it - though I'll still probably be using an official Garmin band for most energetic outdoor stuff. It's pretty heavy too! The seller even included a fairly large plastic tool with vice for adjusting the band via removal of the cotter pins (though it's quite weak and needed me to use pliers to hold it steady and avoid bending).
Anyway, I'm quite pleased with it (worn for 48hrs so far!) so thought other people should know it's an option. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1268228.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1268229.jpg
