Battery Drain

Hi. I could not find anything on this in recent posts, so I guess it is something only concerning my watch. Unless I have overlooked something. Until about 3 weeks ago the battery life on my Garmin 5 was something which impressed me the most, as I only needed to recharge my watch every 5 or 6 days. But now all of a sudden I have to charge it every 2 or 3 days. I did not change anything on the watch at all, in fact I even did a complete reset of the watch, turned off the notifications and back light, but nothing changed. I still have to charge every 2 or 3 days. This is rather annoying and frustrating, especially knowing that it was not always like that. Does anyone have this same issue, or know of the reason why this is happening? Has there been a firmware update perhaps which is leading to this sudden battery drainage? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
  • My apologies that I was abrupt, 1-ghost. I felt a bit rude in my reply

No worries, we are all here to help each other.
  • I am reporting my situation. As I have a new garmin fenix 5 (1 week old), and it's a model S, I don't have any idea if my "stats" are correct or not.

The widget battery analyzer says my watch is discharging 12% a day, and it says it should last for ~8 days. This seems to be correct (garmin says 7-9 days for the fenix 5s).

Anyone with the 5s can say which % it uses per day?

I have a F5S also (for around 6 months) and 10% battery drainage a day seems to be about the "standard value" for me.

(remember everyone that F5S has a smaller battery than F5, so don't mix up battery life for both watchs.... according to Garmin:
F5S-> Smartwatch mode: Up to 9 days VS F5 -> Smartwatch mode: Up to 2 weeks
So dividing 100% per 9 days -> 11.11% per day
also if you have sapphire version with Wifi, that might also drain the battery a bit more)

So. Long story short. I sent my Fenix 5 away to Garmin and 5 days later I got a brand spanking new watch delivered to my door. Problem solved :)
  • ^^So no more software updates?

My own personal opinion on updating any embedded device; don't do it! If you're not having any problems and the update doesn't add any significant features, there's no need to update. Garmin's firmware updates are often 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

I made same decission. I'm still on V. 6.0 which is working without significant problems.
    Edit: Corrected a typo

I am glad I came across this thread, my watch starting being drained just this last week. It went from needing a charge once every 2 weeks to once every 2 days seemingly overnight.
  • Sorry for the delay but, to round off my experience, Garmin sent me a whole new Performance bundle (watch, spare strap and HRM), as that is what I originally bought. I received it within about 5 days as well, so well done to Garmin - although still none the wiser about the issue.

Since last firmware update my watch gets completely empty in one Day. Doing nothing. No Activity or so. My watch has firmware 7.10. A friend has the same watch but never updated. He is still on 6.0 and his watch last 1-2 weeks, depending on his activities. My watch also was used to act like his. At the moment I refuse to believe it is a hardware failure and more of a software failure. I liked to revert my FW to 6.0 but I can't find it to download. I find only a new Beta version 7.54 which says nothing about "better battery life". Does someone have a link for firmware 6.00? Or is my only option to send my watch in?
