Hi. I could not find anything on this in recent posts, so I guess it is something only concerning my watch. Unless I have overlooked something. Until about 3 weeks ago the battery life on my Garmin 5 was something which impressed me the most, as I only needed to recharge my watch every 5 or 6 days. But now all of a sudden I have to charge it every 2 or 3 days. I did not change anything on the watch at all, in fact I even did a complete reset of the watch, turned off the notifications and back light, but nothing changed. I still have to charge every 2 or 3 days. This is rather annoying and frustrating, especially knowing that it was not always like that. Does anyone have this same issue, or know of the reason why this is happening? Has there been a firmware update perhaps which is leading to this sudden battery drainage? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
I already had my Wi-Fi network added before this started happening so it shouldn't be that. The rate of drain is almost like it is tracking a specific activity e.g. cycling using GPS, even though I have not started any activity. I am anly using the usual heart rate, steps etc. which I've always had operating.
No response at all! I even opened a second ticket but nothing. It is as if they are ignoring me:(
It can‘t be a hardware problem as was already suggested in this thread, as it has happened to a few people over the last couple of weeks, that is too many for coincidence don‘t you think? I hope there is an easy fix for this, I don‘t really cherish having to send the watch away for repairs :(
I've also opened the issue with them. I'll post if I get a response. Tried another hard reset today - no change though. In fact it almost seems to be draining more quickly. :(
It is strange. I tried disconnecting BT and Wi-fi and numerous resets but still no improvement. I can't think what to do next other than wait for a Garmin response. FWIW the best I can figure is that it started after a full recharge through Garmin Express on my PC on 30th October - so maybe there was a software change of some sort? It's lost 70% over the last 24 hours. This is ridiculous for a watch that is only 6 months old. The appeal of this watch was the 2 weeks between recharges plus I have a lot of other Garmin stuff.
I tried calling Garmin Support but after waiting on the phone "on hold" for 24 minutes!!!! I gave up. It wasn't a freecall and the costs were building up. That was annoying. I also looked around online and discovered that it takes 2 or 3 weeks to get a reply on any ticket taken out here in the support. I am very frustrated about this, and as with you dgwm16, not happy at all!
I have just come off the phone with Garmin - use the call back service. They responded in 10 minutes.
Basically, as I have tried everything they suggested, I need to return the watch and will either get it repaired or replaced. This can take up to 2 weeks apparently - so no watch for that time then.
Out of interest, are all of you having this issue on Android phones? The reason I mention this is that I have a Fenix 5 (sw6.78b + GPS 4.30) attached to my iPhone and Fenix 3 (sw8.50 + GPS 3.10) attached to my iPad and have not seen any of these drain issues. Added to that, independent of Garmin, I know that RunScribe had to recently update their Android app as it was connecting to the RunScribe pods in such a way as to drain the pods very quickly. Just wondering if there's any commonality of problem here.
