Fenix 5S Strength App Issues

Did anyone realize that the heartrate isn't accurate in the Strength App? It's too low, like >40BPM too low, but somehow when I'm running/biking, it's all more "accurate".

In addition, whenever you start a new set, it goes back to the first page to the App instead of where I was previously. Can that be fixed as well?
  • You'll need to wear an HR strap to get accurate results during weight lifting.. Wrist based just isn't accurate for these workouts and I'm guessing its optical hr that is inaccurate as well. I have a schosche rythem that isn't accurate during strength training but my chest strap is spot on.

Any reason why it's accurate while running/biking/walking/sleeping, but is not for strength training?
  • I've not had it accurate for cycling either and neither have any of my friends. I believe it's because to have the watch sensor flush with your wrist you need to have your watch too tight. I can do weighted pullups and my heart rate says 85 while if I wear a strap it'll read 140. I've tried cycling intervals with it as well and the data was all over the place.
  • It’s a known issue with all optical wrist based heart rate monitors. They rely on tracking blood flow to work out your heart rate and anything that involves flexing your wrist will throw them off. So for most people running is fine, cycling can be a bit hit and miss and gym work will almost always be inaccurate. You need to wear a chest strap or something like the scosche optical arm band if you want accurate HR data from a weights session.

As for for your other question about the reps - I get that too and it is annoying. Hopefully Garmin will address that as they smooth out the strength app features.
