Altimeter/Barometer have gone crazy since 6.xx

1. Floor counting renders impossible numbers like 21 floors Up and 1 Down. NeVeR accirate or at least close to reality. USELESS. I just hope this doesn?t add stupid values to my active calories. Because, there is no way to know.

2. I tried everything to mentain Altimeter and Barometer calibration within real values. Manual calibration on the sea shore with confirmed meteorological info. GPS calibration. Autocalibration. Nothing works well. I live at 18m above sea level. Yesterday was measuring right, but today I woke up with 1m elevation. Garmin! Is this a joke? Is a BaD one.

To be clear, with older firmwares I had more atable readings, and closer to reality.

GARMiN! Fix this because little by little I feel that this fancy Fenix 5 watch is too expensive and useless!

Same problem with my F5Sapphire since V6.00
No more floor climbed is calculated
Altimeter go between +14000m and below the sea level from day to another
thermometer displaying -40?Celsius on my wrist
    Calibration doesn't fix anything
Tried the 3 differents settings for the barometer (auto / alti / baro), but it doesn't help neither

I hope it isn't a physical issue with the sensors, and it will be fixed with the next version

I have noticed that the elevation drifts constantly with version 6. Whereas before 6 it was super stable. I have mine set to auto cal on.

Hard reset performed this morning, but nothing went better ....
The altimeter is still increasing slowly.
Tried a Hike activity this morning to go downtown :
+217 meters in 20 minutes (stable weather) instead of 10 or 20 meters

Another funny thing about the themometer : the widget is still displaying a negative temperature (between -30 and -19 celsius) since the hard reset, but the temperature stored during the activity is shown correct (between +27 and +32 celsius)
Seems to be only a bug with the thermometer widget display only !

Many unpleasant bugs for such an expensive device
  • I have also some troubles with ascent/descent (which seem to be firmware related) but I don?t think that your problem is related to the firmware. I don?t have such a problem ...not at all.

Enjoy... If this is the same problem that plagues the fenix 3 HR, then "all is lost"... No solution after more than one year.
  • Check the settings for the barometer watch mode. There's three options there: Auto, Altimeter, and Barometer. Altimeter will assume that changes in pressure measured by the barometer are because of altitude changes. Barometer will assume that changes are less related to altitude, and are because of weather changes. The Auto setting will do it's best to guess which changes are happening but may not always guess right (depending on how recent the last GPS fix was).

I had a talk with the support today. We tried a full reset, but even worth after, there is no longer altitude, pressure or temperature displayed. (just ---.-- instead)
The device is going back to the garmin factory tomorrow ...
  • Mine went crazy today. Been everywhere from -2600m up to 3100m. Im Sweden :p we dont have peaks that high.
    Im running latest beta.
  • Believe me guys, it's exactly the same as with the fenix 3 hr... It also started around this time of the year (see the link I posted above). Speculations are because of the temperature or long sleeves causing electrostatic... But no one really knows... There still is no fix for this.

II sincerely hoped the fenix 5 series wouldn't have this issue.
