Does Trail Running contribute to the overall training load/training status?

I saw this question posted before, but it did not receive any definitive answers. Does anybody know for sure, one way or another? I like to designate a good portion of my running as trail running.
  • Hi
personally after some months using the watch for trail I conclude the answer is that training load and status seem strongly underestimated against running acitivity and the proof is comparing the status against for instance straviX.
I found other limitations on this watch of you want to use it for trail/sky running.
  • Yes, training load is updated when using Trail Run activity. That's the activity type I primarily use and it always updates. Sometimes it takes a day to register the run, however, so try looking at your training load the day after the run to see if it's increased.
  • Yes, trail running does count towards training load. It doesn't count towards calculating your VO2Max. Training status incorporates both load and VO2Max in it's calculations, so it does need a VO2Max calculation from the regular Running activity in its recent (within the last couple of weeks) history, but as long as that is in the memory, training status will update from trail running.

I've found the exact same behaviour with "normal" runs. It only ever shows the impact on the training load the day after.
  • but nobody has noted a general underestimation of the training load during trail session?
when I compare with the data of stravistiX (for example) I note that Garmin seriously underestimate the calculation.
this seems not happening during running session
