Battery drains faster after software updates

Hello,

I had a issue with my first 5x battery draining faster after a software update. So I returned my original 5x for a new one at REI. I purposely did not update the software for 3 weeks to get a baseline of the battery life. I was going through about 8% a day with about 30 minutes of gps daily so I was able to squeeze about nine days per charge. This was on software 3.40 the stock software out of the box. I have no garmin faces or any widgets from the IQ store it was straight stock. So today I updated my watch to version 5.40 hoping that it was just a faulty watch the first time and have already went through 6% in 11 hours. I tried a soft reset already any ideas or have some of you experienced the same thing. Thanks!

Battery drain isn?t linear so make sure you are measuring from 100%. Also I?d measure for a longer period. I?d also hard reset the watch - press and hold the power button.

Do a soft reset, that will sort it

Battery life is too complex to measure without a lot of dedication. It all boils down to current draw, and that can be different depending on so many factors that it's really hard to do an objective exam. Subjectively I haven't noticed anything alarming or whatnot.

One thing I've noticed on different watches is the % of battery can also change based on temperature. I have a few watch faces that try to detect when the watch is charging, and changes the icon if that appears to be the case.

Summers here, it often gets to 110F, and if I leave my cooled house and go outside, the battery level will increase, giving a false-positive on charging. I'm sure the opposite happens when it's cold outside - the battery % drops just due to temperature.

Updated to 6.0 and last night (during sleep) the battery drained to 5%. Anyone seeing severe battery drain?

I've had 6.0 on my 5x for 3 days and I'm experiencing normal battery drain so far. I agree with the suggestions to do a power cycle. I had 3 different F3's, and those and this 5x would all get increased drain some times, and a power cycle stopped it on all but one of the F3's, which I returned.

On 6.0 for 24hrs, no batt drain issues here

I sometimes find the first 3 percent of so 'drains' very quickly, then is pretty consistent.

Since updating to 6.0 my battery seems to be lasting longer, if anything.
