5.83 Change Log Notes:
  • Added Rep Counting to the Strength activity. To enable Rep Counting, ensure that Strength Settings > Rep Counting is enabled in the Strength activity. Start the timer to automatically count reps during sets. Press the lap key to rest between sets. You can edit your last set's number of reps and weight during a rest period. Press the lap key to advance to the next set.
  • Download Strength workouts from Garmin Connect.*
  • Rep counting is also available in cardio activities when following a cardio workout downloaded from Garmin Connect.
  • Added All-Day Stress. To view the Stress widget, hold the Up key from any widget, and select Add Widget > Stress. You can view your current stress measurement on the widget page. Press the enter key to view a graph of your stress over the last four hours. Press Down to access the Four-Fold Breath relaxation timer.
  • Added support for manual calibration of the Barometer. (Settings > Sensors & Accessories > Barometer > Calibrate)
  • Added support for Hourly Alerts. (Settings > System > Time > Alerts > Hourly)
  • Improved device key handling while using Connect IQ apps.
  • Improved the course navigation icons for better visibility and contrast.
  • Fixed an issue where the device would not transition to the climb screen while using Auto Climb in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where the sunrise and sunset alarms were not working as expected.
  • Fixed an issue where the elevation plot for a single activity in a multi-sport, would display the elevation history of the entire activity.
  • Fixed an issue causing Varia UT800 Smart Headlights to periodically disconnect or power off during a ride.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Running Dynamics Pod to disconnect when using Connect IQ Apps.
  • Fixed a potential issue preventing a course from being joined when not joining it at the start.
  • Fixed a potential issue causing Personal Records to be reported inaccurately.
*Strength workouts are currently not available via Garmin Connect. Only the capability to accept these workouts has been added. It is anticipated that this feature will be available in the near future.
  • The All Day Stress functionality seems to work okay, but I can't see the results in the Garmin Connect App (only on the Garmin Connect website).
Is the functionality available in the limited rollout beta only?
  • There did appear to be a sensor hub update for BLE/ANT+ (at least in the 5x file I applied), so you might notice an improvement there.

It'll most likely be related to these two specific bugfixes and nothing else

I just got asked to switch to the beta version of the app and I can confirm the all day stress tracking shows up once you're in the beta programme. It doesn't show otherwise.

Thanks. Unfortunately I do not have the beta invitation - so I guess a bit more waiting for me then.

  • A few people ask for hourly alerts - it's added in the following release.
Hundreds of users complain about GPS accuracy - Nothing is done nor acknowledged...

    Great job, Garmin...
  • The issue with GPS is overblown. Hundred people from the entire install base is not really that significant (with all respect to those who have a problem).

These days it seems like people believe that anything can be fixed with firmware. At the end of the day, if the GPS hardware implementation in the f5 is flawed, then no end of firmware updates is going to change that. Updates may bring some improvement, but there's going to come a time when we have to accept that the f5 GPS accuracy has got as good as it's going to get.

And sad is it may be, no company in the world is going to come out and say "we acknowledge one of our flagship products isn't actually very good at doing one of its core functions" unless they're undertaking a full recall.
  • Quite. And, even if personally I think the hourly chime is a waste of space in the firmware, it would have been pretty easy to add (and very little space in the firmware). You can't equate that with making serious improvements in GPS performance - it'd have been done ages ago if it was that easy. GPS firmware changes probably mean working with Mediatek, as well, which can't help.

After upgrading from the 5.40 release I lost all the controls on the controls menu except for the flashlight which I added there on top of the default ones, not seen that happen before, email sent to the beta team.

OK, I give up - where do I find the data on the GC website? If I go to Reports>Heart Rate Variability Stress (or use that widget), I just get the same placeholder text that I had before, even though other stuff like steps/HR data etc is fully synced from my f5. At least I've managed to trigger the beta GCM on my iPhone so I can see it on there.

    Edit:
OK, scratch that, I've now realised that it's "Overall Stress Level" I need to be looking at, not HRV Stress.
