Many unavailable activities, how to choose them?

Hi,
on website Garmin Connect I found many types of activities in Messages/News tab (translated from my language). Is there a way how to choose for example car driving, motocross or one from a lot of cycling types? It's there for stats but don't know how to pick it on F5. I don't think it will work when I will create new activity on F5 with exact name like I see on website... :(

Thanks for help
  • I think you can only use those types of activities to change to after the event.
  • On a semi related topic, I am baffled that soccer isn't in the list of activities that can be selected.

Thanks for answer chunkywizard. Now I found that :-). Only some of them are available for changing activity type. And all of them are available for manually created activity. I will try if car driving will delete steps from the time when I was in the car...
  • Unlikely, I suspect.

I'm not sure if you've had Garmin devices before, but the F5 supports many more types of activities than the older models did - until recently, run, ride, swim and multisport combinations of them was as good as you'd get. There are codes embedded in the FIT files the watch creates for each type and subtype of activity; the name of the activity type that you set on the watch doesn't affect these codes. If there's something you particularly want, it's possible to create a ConnectIQ app which will output activities with the appropriate codes that will show up as the correct type in Connect. (I vaguely remember one of the ConnectIQ gurus, probably jim_m_58, was working on an app which would output more or less any type but found getting the settings to work was unmanageable, possibly memory limits, so I don't think that's possible).
