Hiking vs Mountaineering

What's the difference when selecting between the two on the 5X?
  • No answer, but this is really interesting. Anyone tried out the difference between all the different Routing-> Activity options?
  • I think if you use a garmin (topo) map, which supports the active routing, you will get more special mountaineering routes, if yoy calculate the route on the 5x. The avoiding settings of the mountaineering app for routing have one more avoidance to choose: climbing paths.

I use the 5x in combination with the garmin topo pro Germany v 7. On the German garmin homepage there is an explanation of active routing ( I didn't find it on the garmin.com page).

Thanks for this info. I see you don't receive private messages so I'll ask here as it's relevant.

Was curious if you are seeing the distance remaining bug while hiking and navigating? I have a few posts on this including in the 5.40 update thread but basically when navigating not all the screens show the proper distance remaining. Curious if you have seen this issue. To me it's fundamental to hiking!
  • I haven't enabled the data field page on the map screen, so I can't say,
will have a look on it.
  • Yes, same for me. Should be the same number. I also noticed, that the distance in the elevation plot is different...
