Chasing an old PR with the 5X

I apologize in advance if this question was raised in a previous post. I did not find it on this forum.

I have a 5K running Strava segment on which I run frequently. I recorded a PR in October 2015 and I am still short 30 seconds. I would like to use either the Virtual Partner or the Strava segment features on my 5x to "chase" that old PR. Is there a way to import the PR Octobre 2015 GPX file into the watch and "chase" that PR when the 5X "discovers" the segment? What is the best way to do that nowadays taking advantage of the running Strava segments? Thanks in advance!
  • If it's a Strava segment and if you have Strava Premium account, it should alert for the segment during your run, and you can see your state there. If you don't check Garmin Connect and you can create a segment for that part from the activity you did before there. Then send it to your watch and it will alert you when you're getting close to segment and it's free as you won't need Strava Premium.

Thanks! I do have a Strava Premium account and I changed the settings in Garmin Connect such that it chooses the Strava segments. Those are "discovered" by the watch without any problem. What I want to achieve is to force the 5X to choose my own previous PR (not the KOM or the leader on the leaderboard). Or at least to have the option to do it...
  • Step 1. Convert from Strava's gpx format into a tcx file first (I think gpsies.com does this).

Step 2. mcbadger's file conversion tool will convert it from a .tcx file into a .fit file, which you can load onto your watch (in the newfiles folder, then reboot) and race against as an activity. http://runningbadger.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/a-tool-to-help-with-navigation-on.html

Then you can create the segment on Garmin Connect, as probably it won't have the same segment. If the same activity is recorded with a Garmin device find that activity and create the segment from that activity. Then you'll probably be able to traack your PR there. I do that way but there may be other solutions too.
