No update for APAC

APAC user aren't getting any love from Garmin?? We are still 4.20.... are we missing something.
  • Be patient, translation of user interface looks like are not done in parallel as for global version. In additional APAC units have addition for GPS (MICHIBIKI aka QZSS) which need firmware adaption.

Garmin won't have user frustrated with them if their firmware didn't affect functionality. Can't expect user that's getting all the problem to be calm while rest of the world get solution.

Furthermore, anyone who have done some coding should know code modularity. There's no reason for a base firmware update to be held up by things like Language localization, GPS support etc.

Garmin didn't even bother to explain the reason. I personally can't think of any others than lack of support, be it due to market size or man power. Also, Garmin didn't make known to user they are getting these "variant", all their website / Connect IQ across the world only show 1 model.
  • Day 16 - still no update, still no communication. Garmin didn?t tell me when I bought an APAC unit (or even to this day) that we should expect to get updates months after the rest of the world. Communication, explanation, love for loyal users would be appreciated.
  • Sorry, but I'm failing to see the issue here. Your device, along with all of mine, will get an update when Garmin releases it. There's no logic that says just because one type of device is updated all my devices, or yours, should be updated also.
  • Well Sussamb, I am sorry too. I bought the watch because I am enthusiast for the features. Why I have to wait to experience the new feature and bugs fix when others get it weeks sooner?
When I bought the watch, I even did not know that it's an APAC version. And Garmin did not tell that the APAC will get updates weeks later than the global version. There is no issue here, just disappointed consumer.
  • Day 17 - SUSSAMB fails to see the issue and is happy to wait weeks, perhaps months for an update where the forums admin has said ?Global roll-out 100% complete?. Nope, not 100% complete because there is this continent called Asia with over half the world?s population and home to Garmin factory in Taiwan where we are all still on the previous release. No current version, no beta, no love. I bought mine in Thailand to get local support, not because I need Thai language support. I would be happy to jump on he global release and give up Thai language support, I don?t read Thai. But I lift. And I would like the Strength training app. I have all day stress, so I would like all day stress monitoring. I want my 6.0 update, is that too much to ask?
  • I'm sure we'd all like whatever we want on our devices but that's not how it works. Your device is 'as is' when you bought it unless Garmin issue an update specifically for it. In your case one hasn't yet been issued. The fact other devices have been updated is immaterial. Indeed it's entirely conceivable you may receive an update for your device when others don't. On this occasion it's the other way around.

So Garmin should shut up about 100% roll out which is totally incorrect and misleading statement. For any consumer that read here before making purchase decision is definitely being deceive by the total silences and ignorance of another variant by Garmin official website and it's official forum.

When Garmin decided to treat it as another device, make it clear in all their marketing, forum and product page. Even though same version of software, there's still differentiation on Connect IQ app support.

Here's a bit of how that works from a CIQ developer perspective.

Let's say there's device called DEV123 in the "Rest of World" (ROW) market, and a developer supports it in the store. Then an APAC version of DEV123 comes out. It's got a different part number, as things like the version of the FW and CIQ may be different. (language support is for sure). The app store "auto migrates" the app from the ROW device to the APAC device (if it meets the basic requirements of CIQ version, etc). This is a one-time thing, but the app would be available right away without any action by the developer.

Now let's say the developer updates that app in the store, but uses an older version of the Software Development Kit (SDK) that doesn't know about the APAC version. Support for that app in the the store for APAC devices is lost. (recall, auto-migration is a one time thing, and there are reasons that's the case I won't go into). The same can happen with a new app, after the APAC version is in the store, that's built with an older SDK.

The fix, which is easy for the developer, is to just move to the newest SDK and upload it to the store again. A simple "Contact Developer" message might be all it takes. I should mention, that most developers don't even know when an APAC version of a device is released, as support for it is really behind the scenes.

I just always use the newest SDK when I update the store, so it's not a problem for me.
