complete beginner on maps - how to install free maps for other countries [help]

I am struggling with how to install free maps to my 5X. I'm headed to South America and want to install some trail maps.

• Do I need Basecamp?
  
• Do I copy files to a specific folder directly on the watch?
  
• How do I view the newly installed map on the watch?
